Volunteers get to top, but geography stumps city
Ardent volunteers, including a crew and equipment from Harris Sand & Gravel, made it to the top of the Salmonberry ski hill in recent days hauling up essential equipment. This includes the second bullwheel to operate the towrope and the state-mandated warming shack. Work continues on the project and has taken longer – and cost more money - to complete than city officials had originally estimated. Backers of the project – who have volunteered untold hours of labor and materials in hopes of opening the towrope to the public for this winter’s ski season – have also urged city hall to keep up work on the project after some officials called for halting the project until the 2012 building season.
