NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

The Valdez Planning and Zoning Commission will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at 7:00 PM in the City Council Chambers. The purpose of the hearing is to take public testimony on a request from Rob Raney for an exception for his existing garage to encroach 5 inches into the North West corner of the property into the 10 ft. side yard setback.

The property is located at 882 Cottonwood Drive, Lot 5, Block 11, Black Gold #1 Subdivision.

Notice of this public hearing must be mailed to property owners within a 300-foot radius of the affected parcels. You are receiving this notice because your property is within the radius.

The public is encouraged to attend the public hearing. If attendance is not possible, comments may be presented to the Community & Economic Development Department in writing prior to the October 8th meeting. A copy of the comments will be presented to the Planning & Zoning Commission. Submissions by email may be sent to: jvadeboncoeur@ci.valdez.ak.us.

The City of Valdez intends to sell these vessels, located at the Valdez Small Boat Harbor and Storage Yard, pursuant to Valdez Municipal Code Title 11.04.130.H:

The City of Valdez intends to sell these vessels through a sealed bid public auction to the best and highest bidder. Sealed bids must be received by the City of Valdez at the address listed below or the Harbormaster’s Office before October 15, 2014 at 1:30pm. The minimum acceptable bid shall be a sum at least equal to the minimums listed in this advertisement. The successful bid will be paid in cash at the time of sale or within twenty-four hours thereafter.

The City of Valdez may elect to purchase the abandoned property or vessel at the sale for an offset bid in the amount of fees and charges due to the city for the abandoned property or vessel.

Upon the sale of the abandoned property or vessel, the city shall make and deliver its bill of sale, without warranty as to condition of vessel or the existence of liens owing against the vessel, conveying all of the city’s interest in the abandoned property or vessel to the buyer. The successful bidder will provide proof of arrangements satisfactory to the harbormaster for either removal of the abandoned property or vessel, or the placement of the abandoned property or vessel in a location approved by the harbormaster.

Project: VCT Safety Railing & Replacement

This project includes, but is not necessarily limited to: selective removal, replacement, and/or refurbishment of steel handrails at the Valdez Container Terminal (VCT). Work includes removal of existing handrails, fabrication of steel handrails, painting steel handrails, and installation of steel handrails.

Engineers Estimate for construction under $ 80,000 .

Sealed bids will be accepted until 2:00pm local time on October 13, 2014, at the office of the Capital Facilities Director, 300 Airport Road, Suite 201, P. O. Box 307, Valdez, Alaska 99686. The bids will be publicly opened and read at that time.

A non-mandatory pre-bid conference will be held at the office of the Capital Facilities Director, 300 Airport Road, Suite 201, Valdez, Alaska on September 29, 2014 at 2:00 pm.

Current minimum prevailing wage rates as published by the Alaska Department of Labor must be paid if required by law.

Requirements of the Alaska Employment Preference (AS 36.10) must be met.

The City of Valdez is seeking applications from the community who are interested in Parks and Recreation needs for our City. Members of the Parks and Recreation Commission serve a three year term

Powers and duties:

The commission is an advisory commission to the City Council and the Planning and Zoning Commission. It shall:

• Act in an advisory capacity to the city in regard to the planning, implementation and enforcement of programs dealing with the establishment, development and maintenance of parks, the creation and preservation of recreational facilities and opportunities, and the conservation of natural and recreational features within the city.

• Receive, consider and evaluate public input, opinions and recommendations regarding the parks and recreation programs of the city and advise the City Council and Planning and Zoning Commission of any findings or recommendations.

• Make recommendations regarding the parks and recreation budget of the city.

• Meet at least once a month and cause minutes of each meeting to be recorded and forwarded to the council through the city manager.

• Perform such other activities as may be requested of it by the City Council or the Planning and Zoning Commission.

The City of Valdez is seeking applications from members of the community who are interested in Planning and Zoning needs for our City. Members of the Planning and Zoning Commission serve a three year term.

The Planning and Zoning Commission is an advisory commission to the Valdez City Council.

Powers and Duties:

The Planning and Zoning Commission has the authority to prepare and submit to the City Council for approval, a master plan for the physical development of the city, including the general location, character and extent of streets, bridges, parks, waterways and other public ways, grounds and spaces, together with the general location of the public buildings and other public property, public utilities, and the extent and location of any public housing or slum clearance projects. The commission shall recommend such modifications of such plan from time to time, as it deems in the city’s interest;

The Planning and Zoning Commission shall prepare and recommend to the City Council a comprehensive zoning ordinance and map, or propose amendments or revisions thereof, with such provisions as the commission shall deem necessary or desirable for the promotion of health, safety, morals and general welfare of the inhabitants of the city;

The Commission shall act as the platting board and exercise other functions with respect to land subdivisions, planning and zoning as may be prescribed elsewhere in this code or any other ordinance of the city, not inconsistent with the provisions of the city charter.
