The FY 2015 Fire Protection System Tax Exemption Applications are now available at City Hall.

To qualify for the fire protection system tax exemption, each structure for which you are applying for must contain a fire protection system approved under AS18.70.081 in operating condition, and incorporated as a fixture or part of the structure. The exemption granted by this subsection is limited to an amount equal to two percent of the value of the structure based on the assessment for 1981, if the fire protection system is a fixture of the structure on January 1, 1981; or an amount equal to two percent of the value of the structure based on the assessment of January 1, of the year immediately following the installation of the fire protection system if the fire protection system becomes a fixture of the structure after January 1, 1981.

Please note, property owners must call the Valdez Fire Department at 834-3467 to schedule an inspection of the fire protection system. Inspections must be complete and approved prior to submitting your application.

Applications must be filed no later than January 15, 2014.

Remove and replace 16 window units in City Hall. Reseal 11 existing windows and doors that will remain in place.

Engineers Estimate for base bid construction is under $150,000.00 .

Sealed bids will be accepted until 2:00pm local time on January 26, 2015, at the office of the Capital Facilities Director, 300 Airport Road, Suite 201, P. O. Box 307, Valdez, Alaska 99686. The bids will be publicly opened and read at that time.

A non-mandatory pre-bid conference will be held at the office of the Capital Facilities Director, 300 Airport Road, Suite 201, Valdez, Alaska on January 14, 2015 at 2:00 pm.

Current minimum prevailing wage rates as published by the Alaska Department of Labor must be paid if required by law.

Requirements of the Alaska Employment Preference (AS 36.10) must be met.

Valdez Container Terminal (VCT) Underwater Inspections

A. Overview

The purpose of this document is to solicit qualifications from professional consultants to provide engineering and related professional services for the underwater inspection of the Valdez Container Terminal (VCT), the VCT causeway, and the Small Boat Harbor. These inspections include but are not limited to: the floating dock, anchors, dolphins, corrosion assessments, dock interior, transfer spans, vaults for the anchor deadmen, expansion joints, surveying movement of the causeway, pipe piling, sheet pile piling, grid frame, anodes, and Cathodic Protection readings.

The project consists of furnishing all labor, materials, equipment, tools, supervision, and other facilities necessary to perform the required services in accordance with the standards and criteria of the City of Valdez standards of the architectural and engineering profession.

PUBLIC NOTICE

VALDEZ MUSEUM AND HISTORICAL ARCHIVE ASSOCIATION BOARD OF DIRECTORS VACANCIES

Four (4) vacancies currently exist on the Valdez Museum and Historical Archive Association (VMHA) Board of Directors for appointment by the Valdez Museum and Historical Archive Association Board (Valdez City Council) due to the expiration of terms. The term of office will be 3 years, expiring in January of 2018. Individuals interested in serving on the museum board are encouraged to apply.

Applications can be submitted by email to ahendrickson@ci.valdez.ak.us or dropped off at City Hall. Deadline for submission is January 14th at 5pm for appointment on January 20, 2015.

This Board is the Museum’s governing body. The VMHA oversees the management and operation of the Valdez Museum under contract with the City of Valdez. Appointments will be made on the basis of the candidate’s willingness to serve in an unpaid capacity, on a candidate’s experience and/or education that may support and enhance achievement of museum corporation goals in preserving community history, in supporting community education programs, and in fostering economic growth in Valdez.
