Ferry system's upcoming schedule up for review
Teleconference slated so public can weigh in on AMHS proposals
The Alaska Marine Highway System has opened its public comment period for the new ferry schedule.
The public is invited to comment on the new ferry schedule.
The announcement came last week from the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities.
The Valdez Star has received numerous complaints this season regarding the complexity of the charts and graphs used by the Alaska Marine Highway System – AMHS.
Graphs and charts of the proposed ferry schedules and routes are confusing to many.
The documents can be accessed through a link on the AMHS homepage at FerryAlaska.com or directly through the DOT website.
"This is an opportunity for communities to review and comment on the proposed schedule in consideration of community events," Dot said. "Written comments will be accepted prior to July 21 via email at email@example.com and by fax at 907-586-8365."
AMHS says a teleconference to hear comments and consider adjustments is scheduled for Wed, July 22 at 10:00 a.m. for Southeast and at 1:30 p.m. for Southwest and Southcentral schedules. The meeting will be held in Ketchikan at the Alaska Marine Highway Central Office.
The toll free number for public comments during the teleconference is: 1-800-315-6338, conference code 03902#.
