Gov. Walker to attend Gold Rush parade Sunday
Rep. Jim Colver will host open house with governor at Civic Center
Alaska Gov. Bill Walker and Rep. Jim Colver will host an open house in Valdez this Sunday.
Angela Stephl, legislative aid to Colver, said the two elected officials will host the open house at the Valdez Civic Center this Sunday, August 2, from 1-2 p.m.
Walker, who has deep roots in Valdez, was elected governor as an independent candidate last year and enjoyed deep support from voters in Valdez and the Copper Basin.
"The governor, and the first lady, as well as Rep. Colver, will be in town for Gold Rush Days," Doug Desourci, Colver's Valdez representative, told the board of education Monday night. "They'll both be involved with the parade and festivities."
Walker, along with wife Donna and other Valdez supporters, marched in last year's Gold Rush parade during his candidacy, as did Colver.
Colver, who represents District 9 which includes Valdez, is also finishing his first year as a statewide elected official.

Colver also attended the Fourth of July celebrations in Valdez earlier this month.
The parade begins at 3 p.m. on Egan Street according to a flyer sent to Valdez postal customers.
