THREE (3) VACANCIES TO SERVE A THREE (3) YEAR TERM
The City of Valdez is currently accepting applications to fill vacancies on the Providence Valdez Medical Center Health Advisory Council. These positions are appointed by the Valdez City Council and shall each serve a three year term.
The Health Advisory Council and its members provide feedback and guidance to Providence regarding the operation of community Health Care Facilities. All guidance received from the Health Advisory Council by Providence is non-binding and advisory only. The Council is comprised of qualified representatives of the community serving with the intent of assisting the Medical Center in its mission of providing quality health care in Valdez and improving community health and wellness. The Health Council has an advisory role in policy formation, strategic development and oversight of health care programs and services. Regular meetings are held monthly with occasional special events where attendance is expected.

Climbing Wall Attendant
This position works mostly evenings, week days and weekends, between 4-15 hours per week. Duration of the job is expected to be August 15, 2015 thru May 31, 2016; pay range PT-15 $13.62. This position’s responsibilities include opening and closing the Climbing Wall, maintaining safety procedures, inspecting climbers and equipment, route setting, and having knowledge of climbing wall operations including belay techniques, climbing knots, and knowledge of equipment. Additional responsibilities include providing participants with necessary information, completing required paperwork, and meeting professional standards in various skill areas with regard to the Climbing Wall environment. This position will be responsible for enforcing the climbing wall rules, sign in and signing of waivers. Minimum qualifications are high school diploma or GED, must possess CPR/AED and 1st Aid, and must be at least 18 years of age. Working conditions are indoors, with frequent standing, walking, and lifting. Successful applicants should be able to demonstrate their ability to teach belay techniques, climbing knots, and correctly certify people to belay. This person shall understand the manufacturer’s instructions for use, care, maintenance, and inspection of any associated equipment such as ropes, harnesses, carabineers, belay devices, and auto belay systems.
This is a temporary part time hourly position mostly working evenings and weekends, between 15-20 hours per week. Duration of the job is expected to be August 31, 2015 thru May 31, 2016; pay range PT-7 $8.70. This position is responsible for opening and closing the gym, supervising and interacting with the public, recording attendance, monitoring all activities in the facility, maintaining cleanliness and order of the facility. Must be 14 years of age or older.
P&R Event Staff
This is a temporary part time hourly position working various hours per week, with a flexible schedule not to be more than 15 hours per week. Duration of the job is expected to be August 31, 2015 thru May 31, 2016; pay range PT-11 $10.93. This position is responsible to assist with special events planning and implementation, supervis-ing and interacting with public, monitoring all activities during an event, and maintaining cleanliness and order during an event. Must have knowledge of registration and cash handling operations. Must be 14 years of age or older and possess some high school education.

Hospital Maintenance Technician II
The Capital Facilities Department is soliciting applications for a Hospital Maintenance Technician II. Under general supervision, performs carpentry, plumbing, heating and electrical repairs and routine maintenance on City hospital, buildings, building systems, medical equipment, and grounds. Functions in lead capacity.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Associate Degree and five (5) years experience in construction, skilled trades or building maintenance OR an equivalent combination. Depending on the needs of the City, additional licenses, certifications and/or training may be required.
Starting pay is 28.47 – 30.51 (DOE) per hour, with an excellent benefit package. Position works 37.5 hours per week.

The Valdez Consortium Library is accepting applications for a Library Assistant. This is a permanent part-time position, working 26 hours/week on Wednesday-Saturday with Sunday, Monday and Tuesday off. Duties include checking out materials, assisting patrons with library resources, story time, shelving, assisting with special programs, and other duties as assigned. High school diploma or GED required. Computer literacy and proficiency in Internet use and resources required. Salary starts at 18.95/hour plus benefits.
