Traffic Hazard: A large rock was reported as a safety concern in the street at Hanagita and the Park Strip. A community safety officer removed the rock.
Child Abuse: A case of child abuse was reported to the police department. The information was forwarded on to Office of Child Services.
Flood Watch: VPD continues to monitor the rising water levels throughout Valdez as we receive heavy rain.
Harassment: A caller reported being threatened by an individual. The caller wanted the incident documented in case something happened.
Traffic Hazard: Police officers assisted a semi driver when he blew a tire.
Traffic Complaint: An individual reported that a woman on a cell phone drove past a stopped school bus at Foraker.
Traffic Complaint: A caller reported ongoing problems with vehicles speeding up and down Fairweather St. Officers are monitoring the road.
Animal at Large: A dog was reported at large on W Lowe St. The Animal Control Officer responded but was unable to locate the dog.
Animal Bite: A caller reported two of his children were bit by a neighbor’s dog. He said it was already taken care of but he wanted it documented. The dog has been quarantined.
Animal at Large: A dog was reported at large on Gulkana St. The Animal Control Officer responded but the dog was already back home at that time.
Theft Info: A caller reported hearing noises at South Central Hardware on Loop Road and believed people were taking pallets. Officers responded but were unable to locate anyone in the area.
Harassment: Officers assisted an individual receiving numerous phone calls, text messages, and voice messages from a woman who was accusing him of assaulting her. Officers verified that the individual was in Valdez at the time she says the incident happened in another town.
Animal at Large: Two large dogs were reported roaming around Simmons Trailer Court and the Skate Park. The Animal Control Officer responded to the area but was unable to locate the dogs.
Harassment: A caller reported an individual he has a no-contact order with is continuously harassing him. Officers contacted the individual and warned him to stop.
Lost Property: A rain jacket was lost around the Ferry Terminal. If found, please turn into the Valdez Police Department.
Traffic Complaint: Officers responded to a report of numerous vehicles parked alongside Abercrombie Creek on Dayville Road far enough in the road to impede through traffic.
Traffic Hazard: Officers removed a couch, along with other items, from the middle of the Highway around Airport Road that fell out of the bed of a truck. The load was unsecured.
Animal Bite: A caller reported her child was bit by a dog. The dog has been quarantined.
Bear Incident: A caller reported there was a black bear in a tree by the college and people were taking pictures. Officers responded to make sure no one was in danger of the bear.
Missing Person: A business reported one of their employees missing after he hadn’t shown up for work and hadn’t been seen by his co workers for approximately 30 hours. Officers located the individual and notified the employer.
Welfare Check: A caller reported that an elderly man seemed disoriented or confused when he asked her for directions on the street. Officers located the individual at the bar and he was fine.
Assist Medical: Officers assisted EMS with an ATV accident.
Traffic Complaint: A caller reported a vehicle passed him in a no passing zone while speeding. Officers were unable to locate the vehicle.
DUI: Bryce K. Whittaker, DOB 09/06/90, of Anchorage, was arrested for Driving Under the Influence. Whittaker provided a breath sample for the Datamaster at the Valdez Jail; his breath alcohol registered .142.
Traffic Complaint: An individual reported that a man driving a white Dodge drove past a stopped school bus at Hanagita.
Found Property: A wallet was found on the sidewalk on Fairbanks Dr. If you believe this belongs to you, contact VPD with descriptors to claim.
Oil Spill: A mile long sheen of oil was reported in the Tatitlek narrows. Coast Guard was notified and is taking care of the spill.
Animal Info: An individual reported an ongoing problem with their neighbor’s dog. Both the ACO and the CSO helped to resolve the issue.
Theft of Property: Dispatch received a report of a long board and two scooters stolen from the Public Pool during open swim. The items were recovered from a juvenile later in the evening during a routine traffic stop. Criminal charges are being referred to Juvenile Intake Officer.
MVA: A caller reported while on his way home, he hit a bear with his vehicle. The occupant and the vehicle were fine, however, the bear was deceased. Officers and CSO responded to the residence to take custody of the bear.
Arrest: Tracy N. Eppard, DOB 01/03/58, of Valdez, was arrested on one count of Misconduct Involving Weapons in the 4th degree, and one count of Misconduct Involving Weapons in the 5th degree after Officers observed Eppard laying on the ground, severely intoxicated, and in possession of a handgun.
Found Property: A wallet was found in the parking lot of Old Town Burger. If you believe this belongs to you, contact VPD with descriptors to claim.
Theft of Property: A caller reported while at a local establishment that her phone was stolen. Officers tried to track the individual with the callers “Find my Phone” app and the descriptors of the suspect but were unable to locate the individual. If you have information regarding this case, please contact Valdez Police Department.
Harassment: An individual reported overhearing a threat to the owners of a local business. Upon investigation, officers discovered the individual filing the report had made sexual advances to the original suspect that were refused. The individual was no longer welcomed in the business.
Traffic Hazard: Officers moved barrels that had blown into the road at the harbor project that were impeding traffic.
Littering: Officers contacted two individuals that were reported littering on Glacier Haul Road. They stated they were going to use the garbage to have a fire but were unable to due to rain. Officers advised them they needed to take the trash to the dump; they said they would by the end of the day.
Theft of Property: A local business reported valuable items had been stolen from their store. This case is under investigation.
Assist Medical: Officers assisted EMS with an individual having chest pain.
Animal Neglect: The CSO responded to a report of a dog chained and tangled around a chainsaw. The dog was tearing the chainsaw apart and the caller was concerned the dog was going to ingest the gasoline. The CSO moved the chainsaw away from the dog but was unable to contact the owner.
Civil Dispute: A caller reported her roommate was throwing her belongings outside the house but was unable to leave work to retrieve them. She wanted to speak with an officer to see what her options were. Officers advised her that because the house was not in her name, it was a civil matter.
Disturbance: Dispatch received information of a fight in progress outside of the RHR event. Officers contacted witnesses who stated an intoxicated male was harassing a group of people when one of them had enough and tackled him to the ground then continued walking.
Intoxicated Pedestrian: A caller reported an individual was trying to walk through the harbor area but was falling into his boat along with others before falling to the ground of the parking lot and not getting up. Officers responded and once able to get information from him, assisted with getting the individual back to his bunk.
Welfare Check: Officers responded to a report of an approximately 2 year old girl that was crying with no shoes and looked lost. The girl was playing at a neighbor’s home and wandered off to find her mom.
Missing Person: A caller reported he couldn’t find his elderly father after dropping him off at the Betty Cato Bridge two hours ago because he wanted to walk. He was located walking by Valdez High School; the caller was notified.
Welfare Check: A woman was trying to locate her granddaughter after leaving her with a friend to stay the night. She requested officer assistance when she couldn’t get a hold of the friend’s parents. Officers located the girl; she was fine and her grandmother went to pick her up.
8-18-15 Valdez EMS responded to an individual who had fallen. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.
8-19-15 Valdez EMS responded to an individual needing medical assistance. The patient was treated at the scene, no transport.
8-20-15 Valdez EMS responded to an ATV accident on Dayville Road. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.
8-21-15 Valdez Hazmat team responded to a small oil spill. The small spill was absorbed and the area was cleaned up.
8-22-15 Valdez EMS responded to an individual needing medical assistance. The patient was treated at the scene, no transport.
