A number of generous souls are sharing Thanksgiving meals with others in Valdez.
The holidays will be a community event for many in Valdez this year.
While families and friends gather around the table to eat traditional turkey meals - often capped with football - others have been working behind the scenes preparing for December Christmas events.
The city of Valdez will be hosting its annual tree lighting ceremony next to the Valdez Museum this Sunday.
"The Annual Valdez Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony is a holiday tradition in Valdez," the city's online calendar say. "Don't miss out on this year's festivities, as we light our new community Christmas Tree and begin some new holiday traditions."
This includes decorating the tree with ornaments, caroling, and enjoying warm drinks and cookies, along with a visit from Santa.
"Pictures with Santa will be held in the Valdez Library immediately following the Tree Lighting Ceremony," the city said. "Please bring your own camera or phone to take pictures."
The Christmas bazaar hosted by the Emblem Club is also just around the corner according to organizer Agnes Hansen.
"Valdez Emblem Club #514 will be hosting their annual Christmas Bazaar on December 5, 2015," she said in an email Monday. "It runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Please call Agnes Hansen 255-5841 if you would like a table."
The event is a cherished tradition in Valdez, featuring unique Christmas gifts for the shopping public.
Before the holiday rush begins, Bayside Community Church is opening its doors for a Thanksgiving meal.
"Bayside Community Church welcomes anyone who wishes to have a Thanksgiving meal," organizers said last week. "The traditional meal will begin at 1 p.m., Thursday."
