Lady Bucs sweep Elks Tournament in three-day run
Winning streak: Valdez girls are 14-4 for the basketball season so far

The Lady Buccaneers gave Kotzebue a run for its money - and more - during last week's Elks Tournament.
The Lady Buccaneers are rolling their way to the top of the Aurora Conference after the team's sweep of the Elks Tournament.
The Valdez girls bested Seward during the team's first game Thursday, outscoring the Lady Seahawks in the first three quarters.
Valdez was up 31-16 at halftime, and outscored Seward by five points in the third quarter. The Lady Bucs added another 10 points in the fourth, to Seward's 15.
The Lady Bucs took the game, 52-37.
Makenzi Mott was top scorer, followed closely by Sidney Hursh, with 14 points.
The Lady Bucs also won Friday's game against Kotzebue 25-39.
Mott was once again the top scorer, with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Katy Merioles scored 12 points.
The home team came out strong Saturday in the championship game against Nikiski.
Valdez scored 21 points in the first quarter, while keeping their opponents in the single digits with 5 points. The gap spread to 31-17 at the end of the first half. With the championship at stake, both teams kept their opponents in the single-digits score-wise.
The home team won the game, 45-30, in front of an enthusiastic crowd.

The Lady Bucs showed the visiting team from Kotzebue how they do it in Valdez.
Mott led the Lady Buccaneers to the top, contributing 20 points and 9 rebounds.
The Lady Bucs will be hitting the road this week, traveling to Fairbanks to take on the Lady Rams of Monroe Catholic.
Valdez will not see additional home games until March.
The team is slated to travel to Eielson at the end of the month, before hosting Redington the first weekend in March.
