07/04

Fireworks: A person called in to report fire balloons landing on RV’s and believes it to be dangerous. An Officer responded to the area but could not find any fire balloons.

Disturbance Other: A report of two people fighting behind the Catholic Church was received. An Officer responded to the area and did not locate anyone fighting.

ETOH Pedestrian: While on patrol an Officer stopped a pedestrian that appeared to be intoxicated. The Officer spoke with the fisherman who was on his way back to a boat.

Disturbance Other: A caller reported that he was being beat up. An Officer responded to a residence and the subject was OK no further action taken.

Bear Incident: A caller reported a brown bear cub without the mother in their back yard. The Animal Control Officer responded to the residence but the bears had left the area.

Animal Bite: A caller reported that her son was bit by a large dog. The Animal Control Officer responded to the residence to examine the bite mark. The Animal Control Officer tried to contact the owner of the dog but no one was home.

Public Service: Officers assisted with traffic control for the 4th of July parade route.

Citizen Contact: An Officer found a lost boy during the parade and kept him in the patrol car until his parents could be located.

Vehicle in Ditch: A caller reported his VW bug rolled into Mineral Creek after the parking brake failed to engage. An Officer responded to the area and a tow truck was requested. The tow truck pulled the vehicle out of the River.

Fireworks: A caller reported that his house was being hit with bottle rockets. An Officer responded to the area but could not find anyone shooting fireworks in the area.

Found Property: A man dropped off a purple sweatshirt to the Valdez Police Department. Call the Valdez Police Department with identifiers to claim.

Fireworks: A report of individuals shooting fireworks off near where the fireworks contractor was setting up. An Officer responded to the area spoke with a person who agreed to have the others take their fireworks to a different location.

Assist Medical: An Officer responded to assist with a medical call that was fireworks related.

Citizen contact: While on patrol an Officer contacted some folks out at dock point. One individual had let off a large firework, which resulted in debris hitting some bystanders and injuring one of them. The Officer addressed the group and told them if another incident was reported they would have to leave the area.

ETOH Pedestrian: A caller reported a young female that was highly intoxicated; two males were trying to help her. The caller reported that it did not seem like a safe situation for the female. An Officer responded to the area but did not find anyone matching the description given.

Fireworks: A caller requested assistance shutting fireworks down in Robe River. An Officer responded to the area but there were no fireworks.

Fireworks: While on patrol an Officer told people to stop shooting off Fireworks behind a local business.

Fireworks: While on patrol an Officer came across the same group shooting fireworks and confiscated the fireworks. He advised the group to disperse.

Fireworks: An Officer came upon a group that were shooting fireworks and informed them of the rules. They thought the time for fireworks was 2AM and they will quit.

Fireworks: An Officer contacted the captain of a vessel to instruct his crew to stop shooting fireworks.

Fireworks: An Officer made contact with a person outside of their trailer and told them to stop shooting off fireworks. They agreed to stop.

Fireworks: A report of Fireworks at a local bar was received. An Officer contacted a female who said she wasn’t aware of the time constraints on the fireworks.

DUI: A caller reported a possible drunk driver in a white pickup weaving and running over white lines. An Officer responded and conducted a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle. Arrested: Michael Felch, DOB 5/12/56 out of Wasilla for DUI and Misconduct involving a weapon. His BrAC was .182.

Fireworks: A caller reported fireworks towards the back area by the dumpsters in Valdez Mobile Home Park. An Officer responded to the area but all was quiet.

Missing Person: A Father called to report that his son did not show up for work and he could not contact him. Officers attempted to contact him at his residence but no one was home. Father called back and stated that his son made it to work and is no longer missing.

Found Property: A black bicycle was left at the Civic Center and turned into the Police Department. Call the Police Department with identifiers to claim.

Extortion: A caller reported her son had received a text from a teenage girl asking for explicit photos, and then wanted money in exchange for not giving the photos to anyone else. This case is currently under investigation.

Family Issues: A caller reported that he had kicked out a juvenile from his residence last night and they had come back. He requested Officer Assistance in getting them to leave. An Officer responded to the residence, everything was fine and the person had left.

Welfare Check: A caller reported a 4 year old child unattended and outside her neighbors trailer. An Officer responded to the residence, both parents were home and the kids were fine.

Welfare Check: A report of a maroon Ford truck with a camper cab that had been parked for several days was received. Caller had not seen anyone coming or going and is concerned. An Officer responded to the area and would contact the business during business hours the next day.

Camping: The Community Service Officer was out with campers that were parked in a no camping area.

Bear Incident: While on patrol the Community Service Officer was on standby to make sure a brown bear went back into the woods.

Harassment: A caller reported that a person keeps flipping him off and swerving his truck at him. This case is currently under investigation.

07/06

ETOH Pedestrian: A caller reported a man passed out in the parking lot of the Totem. An Officer responded to the area and provided transport to his employer. The Officer left him with some co-workers who took care of him.

Family Issues: A man called to report his wife took his phone and “it’s about to get ugly over here”. An Officer responded to the residence. Husband left for Anchorage, no further assistance was needed.

Traffic Hazard: A caller reported a water truck was parked in the inbound lane completely blocking the roadway- no flaggers in the area. An Officer responded to the area and told the driver of the truck to move.

Disturbance Other: A report of a man who came into a business and was threatening the workers and acting crazy. Complainant would like Officers to trespass him from the premises. An Officer responded to talk to the man and told him to stop doing that and advised him that he was trespassed from the property. The man stated he would not go back.

Family Issues: A man reported his significant other and daughter were in a heated argument and he was requesting an Officer. An Officer responded to the residence. Mom and daughter were arguing over a tour of the terminal. Officer spoke with both parties and no further action was needed.

Animal Impound: A caller reported a yellow lab at large at his house. The Community Safety Officer responded to the area and impounded the animal.

Fireworks: A caller reported individuals shooting off fireworks and they were scaring her dog. An Officer responded to the area and informed the kids they were not allowed to shoot fireworks in the City Limits. Told them where they could shoot fireworks outside of City Limits and had them clean up the mess.

Suspicious Vehicle: A dark blue Nissan car in a parking lot with the trunk open was reported. There was luggage in the trunk but no one was around. An Officer responded to the area and found two people sleeping in the vehicle. The Officer informed them that they could not overnight camp in that area and offered alternative areas to camp.

Traffic Complaint: A caller reported a red pickup truck turned down airport road and almost t-boned a piece of equipment with a brush on the front. The truck ended up in the ditch. An Officer responded to the area and the person said that the equipment almost hit him. No alcohol was involved and no further action was taken.

Welfare Check: A caller reported a woman sitting on a sandbar seemed oblivious and not paying attention to her young son who is out by the main current at the 10 mile dike system. An Officer responded to the area but could not find anyone matching the description given.

Bear Incident: A report of an injured small brown bear was received. The Animal Control Officer responded to the area but did not see any bears around. He gave the caller his card and said if they see it again to call him.

Animal at Large: A large black lab was walking down the middle of the street by Wyatt Way. The Community Safety Officer responded to the area but did not find any dogs running free.

Bear Incident: A caller reported a brown bear on the beach at the hatchery and people were getting way too close. The Community Safety Officer responded to the area but the bear had moved on.

Fireworks: A caller reported someone shooting off fireworks by the Stan Stephens part of the Small Boat Harbor. An Officer responded to the area but did not find anyone shooting fireworks.

Bear Incident: While on patrol the Community Safety Officer stopped to do crowd control until the bear left the area.

Criminal Mischief: The basketball hoops at Herman Hutchens Elementary School by the Administration Building were reported damaged. This case is currently under investigation.

Attempt Suicide: A caller reported that someone took a handful of pills. EMS and the Valdez Police Department were dispatched to handle the call. The person was taken to the Valdez Hospital.

DUI: A caller reported her son’s car was hit and the suspect had left the area. An Officer responded to the area and located the suspect at a local business. Arrested: Tamara Pennington, DOB 01/24/1979, of Valdez was arrested for DUI, PBT Refusal and Failure to give immediate notice of a motor vehicle accident. Her BrAC at the time of arrest was .277

Bear Incident: The Community Safety Officer provided crowd control at the Hatchery while a bear was in the area.

Assault Simple: A report of an assault that happened on a Vessel was received. Officers and EMS responded to the small boat harbor to meet the vessel when it arrived. Officers investigated the incident. No arrest was made.

Disturbance Other: Several callers reported a disturbance between a man and a woman on W Klutina. Officers responded to the area and spoke with both individuals. They stated that there was no problem and went on their way.

Suspicious Vehicle: A caller reported a vehicle driving very slowly. An Officer responded to the area and observed an elderly women getting out of the vehicle. No further action needed.

Disturbance Other: A caller reported being woke up to someone yelling “leave and quit beating me” from a neighbor’s house across the street. An Officer responded to the residence and spoke with both parties. She stated she was yelling at him because she didn’t want him to be late. No further action taken.

Traffic Complaint: A caller reported a man was yelling at him and shaking a stick as he drove by. An Officer responded to the area and talked to the individual and informed him to stay away from the driver and his employees.

Bear Incident: A caller reported they were hiking back mineral creek canyon and encountered a small black bear and sow. An Officer responded to the area and provided a ride out of the area to safety.

Bear Incident: A report of a large grizzly over by the hatchery with some uneducated tourists viewing was received. The Animal Control Officer responded to the area and advised the tourist to get behind the barricades. The bear went up the hill and the crowd dispersed.

Bear Incident: A caller reported a small black bear in the area of Mineral Creek Dr. The Community Safety Officer responded to the area but the bear had left the scene.

Traffic Complaint: A report of side dumps cutting through Aleutian was received. An Officer contacted the Managers of the road construction crew who said they would take care of the problem.

Disturbance Other: A caller stated a green buggy with young people in it drove by him and insulted him. An Officer responded to the area but did not find anyone matching the description.

Disturbance Other: A caller reported that while she was posting “no dumping” signs a man assaulted her, pushed her and hit a city vehicle. An Officer responded to the area spoke with the caller but the man had already left the scene. This case is currently under investigation.

Bear Incident: A caller reported a bear by the snow lot on Derk way. The Community Safety Officer responded to the area but the bear had left.

Domestic Assault: A report of a possible domestic dispute in progress was received, a female was heard yelling leave me alone. Officers responded to the area, no alcohol was involved the parties were separated for the night.

Stop FI: While on patrol an Officer stopped by a vehicle that was pulled off to the side of the road with three people in it. They had run out of gas and were waiting for a friend to drop some off.

Open Window: While on patrol an Officer noticed windows open on a building. The Officer was able to secure the windows.

Criminal Mischief: A report of vehicle damage while parked at Safeway was received. This case is currently under investigation.

Driving where prohibited: While on patrol an Officer saw a scooter on the bike path. A verbal warning was given for driving on the bike path and not having proper eye protection.

Welfare Check: An Anchorage woman requested a welfare check on a friend that was supposed to be in Valdez. Officers drove around Valdez looking for his vehicle and were not able to locate the vehicle or a man matching the description given.

Disturbance Noise: A caller reported loud noise. An Officer responded to the residence and spoke with several individuals who agreed to turn down the volume.

07/09

Welfare Check: A man requested a welfare check on his wife after he received a disturbing text message. An Officer attempted to contact her. The man called back to say he was able to contact her and she was OK. He said if he needed any further assistance he would call back.

Disturbance Other: A caller reported a man with a stick outside the post office waving it around and screaming at people. An Officer responded to the area and told the man to leave the area.

Animal Impound: A caller reported that a Jack Russell dog wandered into her business so she took it home. The Animal Control Officer picked up the animal and took it to the Animal shelter.

Neighbor Issues: A caller reported a man was laying dead fish by the fence between their two properties. An Officer responded to the area and spoke with all parties involved. Both denied anything wrong and the Officer could only find a piece of fish skin near the driveway. No further action taken.

ETOH Pedestrian: Several callers reported a man on a bike that may be intoxicated since he had fallen several times. An Officer responded to the area but could not find anyone on a bike.

Disturbance Other: A caller reported an elderly man was trying to open the door and banging on the windows of a local business. An Officer responded to the area and spoke with the man who was trying to get an employee to open so he could buy a hat.

Traffic Complaint: A report of excessive speed by a black Chevy pickup truck on Egan Dr. was received. An Officer responded to the area but did not find a vehicle matching the description.

Bear Incident: A report of a bear in the area of the Animal Shelter and the bikers by DOT was received. An Officer responded to the area, but the bear had left. He spoke with several of the bikers and informed them if the bear came back to the area to call the Police Department.

Animal Bite: An elderly man was bitten by a dog approximately 50 miles out of town. This case was passed on to the Alaska State Troopers since it was in their jurisdiction.

Disturbance Noise: A caller reported construction workers at the airport making noise. An Officer responded to the area and did not find anyone working.

Gunshot Heard: A report of gun shots heard on the west dike by the mountains in Mineral Creek area was received. Officers responded to the area but were unable to locate anyone firing guns.

Suspicious Vehicle: While on patrol an Officer noticed a vehicle driving suspiciously. He made contact with the driver. They were lost so the officer gave them directions.

Stop FI: While on patrol an Officer contacted a person who was sitting in a parked vehicle. He had a fight with his girlfriend and just wanted some space.

Underage Drinking: A caller reported that under age teens were coming up on the porch at a local bar and were taking drinks off the tables. Officers responded to the establishment but were unable to locate anyone matching the description given.

07/10

Public Assist: A man’s car broke down in the pass and he hitchhiked to town. An Officer assisted him with getting a tow truck and provided transportation back to his vehicle to wait for the tow truck.

Bear Incident: While on patrol the Community Safety Officer saw two black bears on Dayville road. He stayed in the area until the bears left.

Theft Other: A caller reported that his wallet and jacket were stolen from the mess hall at Peter Pan. This case is currently under investigation.

Camping: A caller reported that someone was camped out at Old Town for about a month. The Animal Control Officer made contact with the campers and informed them they would have to move.

Bear Incident: A caller reported a big black bear by Ruth Pond that had come down the hill and was along the roadside in the bushes. The Community Safety Officer responded to the area for bear patrol.

Bear Incident: A caller reported a bear playing in the grass by Abercrombie Creek and traffic was stopping in the middle of the road to watch. An Officer responded to the area for traffic control. The bear and three cubs went back into the woods and the crowd cleared out.

Motor Vehicle Accident – Damage: Several callers reported a motor vehicle accident with unknown injuries. The Police Department and the Fire Department responded to the scene.

Animal at Large: A caller reported three dogs running free and she couldn’t let her dogs out. The Community Safety Officer responded to the area and spoke with the owner of the dogs who agreed to keep them tied up.

Welfare Check: A welfare check was requested on a woman. Officers responded to the residence and spoke with the woman who declined additional resources.

Fish & Game: A caller reported a baby bird had fallen out of its nest. The Community Safety Officer responded to the residence to investigate.

Animal Noise: A caller reported that two dogs were left out on the neighbors porch and they have been barking for 6 hours. The Community Safety Officer responded to the residence where the owner was out of town. The dog sitter was contacted to correct the problem.

Citizen Contact: While on patrol an Officer made contact with two individuals who were smoking Marijuana in public. The Officer informed them to go to a private place.

7-4-16 Valdez EMS responded to a public assistance request.

7-4-16 Valdez EMS was on standby for the 4th of July events.

7-4-16 Valdez EMS responded to a medical call dealing with fireworks injury. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.

7-4-16 Valdez Fire Department was on standby for the 4th of July fireworks display.

7-5-16 Valdez EMS responded to a medivac request.

7-5-16 Valdez Fire was requested to investigate a carbon monoxide detector that was activated at a local RV park.

7-6-15 Valdez Fire Department responded to fire alarm activation at the Valdez Man Camp. The alarm was reset, no fire was detected.

7-7-16 Valdez EMS responded to a medical request. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.

7-7-16 Valdez EMS responded to a medical request on two individuals. The patients were treated at the scene and no transportation was needed.

7-8-16 Valdez EMS responded to a medivac request.

7-8-16 Valdez Fire Department responded to alarm activation at Silver Bay Seafood. After investigation of the area the alarm was reset and no fire was found.

7-9-10 Valdez EMS responded to an individual having chest pains. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.

7-9-16 Valdez EMS responded to an individual with an injury at the skate park. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.

7-9-16 Valdez EMS responded to a medivac request.

7-9-16 Valdez EMS along with the USCG responded to a medical request for an individual with a puncture injury out of the water. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.

7-9-16 Valdez EMS responded to an individual needing medical attention. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.

7-10-16 Valdez EMS responded to a medical trauma for an individual. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.

7-10-16 Valdez EMS was requested to standby for an agency assist for an incoming helicopter.

7-10-16 Valdez EMS responded to a medivac request.

7-10-16 Valdez Hazmat/Fire Department responded to a possible gas leak in the Small Boat Harbor area. No gas leak was found in the area.

7-10-16 Valdez EMS responded to an individual needing medical assistance. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.

7-10-16 Valdez EMS responded to a motor vehicle accident involving 2 vehicles. The patients were treated at the scene with no transportation.

7-10-16 Valdez EMS responded to a medivac request.
