Obituary: Christian Cumbie
Christian Adam Cumbie, while visiting Valdez, passed away on Tuesday, July 26 while motorcycling through the Chugach Mountains.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, August 5th, 2016 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Lidia Selkregg Chalet in Russian Jack Springs Golf Course, 1600 Lidia Selkregg Lane, Anchorage.
Christian was born on September, 5, 1976 in Falls Church, Virginia, to Geraldine Czarnecki of Fairbanks and Dana Cumbie of Fairfax, Virginia.
Christian was raised in Anchorage and as an adult enjoyed living in Seattle, Washington; Reno, Nevada; Orlando, Florida; and Melbourne, Florida. Christian was an avid golfer, who encouraged others, including his sister Mistie, to enjoy the sport. He was a loyal fan of the Minnesota Vikings, and the Boston Celtics, though no one understands why, and he had a true passion for Nissan vehicles and fast as $#!+ motorcycles. As a bartender, Christian fit the role, with dimple cheeked boyish charm, a sharp wit, and an innate ability to tell a story with "minimal" embellishment. When not working, or throwing golf clubs, Christian enjoyed watching movies, reading books and graphic novels, most especially those based in the DC and Marvel Universes. While never quite politically correct, his humor could bring a smile to anyone, and his generosity could not be measured. He was ever quick to forgive, and would never turn away from a friend in need.
In January of 2014, Christian suffered a traumatic brain injury, and spent the following two years recovering. Through this, Christian struggled to be himself again, while being held captive by his emotional and physical impairments from the injury. Though his behavior and actions after the injury could easily have been misunderstood by outsiders, those who knew Christian understood his true nature and intentions. We are grateful to know his struggle is over, and have faith that he is now fully healed in the arms of his creator.
Christian's legacy lives on through his mother, Geraldine Czarnecki and her husband Mark (his dad), his sister, Mistie Poor and her husband Loren and their children, Drake, Marika, Holly and Morganne, his Father, Dana Cumbie, and countless loving family members and friends.
