Assist Medical: VPD assisted EMS with a Lifeline medical call.
Agency Assist: VPD assisted in contacting an individual whose boat was sinking in the harbor due to the heavy rain.
DUI: VPD responded to the report of a car that was swerving all over the road and recklessly passed a dump truck. Andrew K. Johns, DOB: 10/10/1988, of Copper Center was charged with Driving Under the Influence, Driving Without a Valid License and an outstanding AST Warrant for FTC original charge Assault 4. He registered a breath-alcohol content of .243
Fraud: Fraudulent charges from local businesses were reported on an individual’s bank account that has not been in the Valdez area for 15 years. This case is currently under investigation.
Localized Flood Watch: VPD monitored high flooding areas during the heavy rain falls.
Agency Assist: VPD contacted DOT regarding river water running across the roadway. DOT already had a work crew enroute to take care of the issue.
Welfare Check: VPD received a report from an individual who stated that they were not doing well and requested to speak to an officer.
Assist Medical: VPD assisted EMS in response to a medical emergency of the operator of a school bus.
Bear related Calls: A sow and cubs were reported on the tide flats.
Bear related Calls: A black bear was reported seen on the town side of the Betty Cato Bridge.
Lost Property: A Netherlands passport was reported lost. If found, please return to the Valdez Police Department.
Family Issues: A possible domestic was reported. Officers responded and discovered it was a verbal dispute over financial issues. Both parties were separated.
Noise Disturbance: A caller reported banging and hammering ongoing for several nights. Officers made contact with the party who was splitting wood and was advised to watch the noise after 10:00pm.
Animal DOA: A bunny was reported deceased in the road.
Animal Cruelty: Dispatch received a complaint of animal cruelty. The Animal Control Officer investigated and found there were no animal cruelty violations.
Animal Impound: A dog that was found at MP 6 of the Richardson Hwy was surrendered to the Valdez Animal Shelter.
Bar Disturbance: A caller reported a disturbance in a local bar while they were leaving and didn’t want to go back. Officers responded and found that there was no altercation going on.
Bear Related Calls: A caller reported a bear was outside their house. An officer found that a bear had gotten into their garbage. Caller said they would clean up the garbage and put it in the dumpster. Valdez Police Department encourages keeping all garbage locked up to avoid bears getting into it.
Serve Time: Lyudmila V. Gorbachuk, DOB: 09/12/1990, of Puyallup WA, checked in to the Valdez Jail to serve 3 days for a DUI conviction.
Trespassing: An officer was conducting a security check at a residence whose owner had been out of town for 3 weeks and found evidence of someone staying there. Stephen Douglas Hansford, DOB: 09/05/1971, of Whittier, was arrested for Criminal Trespass in the 2nd degree and Violating Conditions of Release on an Anchorage case for Driving Under the Influence. He is currently being held at the Valdez Jail.
Noise Disturbance: A caller reported screaming coming from a nearby residence. Both parties were spoken to by an officer and found everything was fine and that one of the parties was just upset.
Intoxicated Pedestrian: An intoxicated male was reported lying in the parking lot of a local business. An officer responded to the area and provided transportation to get them home safe.
Oil Spill: Valdez Police Department received an information report that ¼ tsp of hydraulic fluid was spilled into the Port of Valdez.
Noise Disturbance: Intoxicated individuals were reported being loud and obnoxious. An officer responded to the area and advised the individuals to keep the noise down in which they complied.
Noise Disturbance: A concerned caller reported people yelling at each other and disrupting the dogs in the neighborhood. An officer responded and found it to be teenagers having a sleepover.
Bear Related Calls: A caller reported to have clipped a bear while driving down the highway. An officer patrolled the area and found the bear had left the area prior to arrival.
Possible Drunk Driver: A caller reported someone was consuming alcoholic beverages at a local establishment and got in their vehicle and drove away. An officer made contact with the individual and found they were not impaired.
Await Sentencing: Christopher Levi Harnden, DOB: 08/14/1986, was transported to the Valdez Jail to await sentencing.
ATV: A caller reported several kids were on an ATV were going back Mineral Creek Canyon and suspected them of possibly consuming alcohol. An officer made contact with the individuals and found there was no alcohol onboard.
Lost Property: An Android Kyocera cell phone was reported lost around Airport Road. If found, please contact the Valdez Police Department.
Found Property: A black tri-fold wallet containing identification from Washington and Colorado was left in the drop box. Please contact the Valdez Police Department with descriptors to claim.
Bear Related Calls: A caller reported a sow and 2 cubs were trying to get in their house.
Agency Assistance: Valdez Police Officers assisted the Valdez Fire Department with an active structure fire at a local business.
Bar Disturbance: A disturbance was reported at a local establishment. The individuals who had been a part of an altercation left right before officer arrival.
Disturbance: A caller reported someone was trying to break into their house. Officers responded and found a confused individual. EMS was contacted and the individual was transported to the hospital for observation.
Bear Related Calls: A caller reported bears were on their porch getting into garbage. Dispatched advised the caller that they need to keep the garbage off the porch to avoid the bear returning.
Serve Time: Jaidyn Shakiah Tuttle, DOB: 03/22/1996, checked in to serve 10 days on a DUI and Driving While License Revoked conviction.
Assist Medical: Valdez Police Officers assisted EMS Crew with an injured female that was hiking on a trail near Keystone Canyon.
Found Property: Sunglasses were found in the Valdez Area. Contact the Valdez Police Department with descriptors to claim.
DUI: A caller reported an individual was stumbling to their vehicle and was getting ready to drive away. Valdez Police Officers contacted David James Gadomski, DOB: 04/17/1978, of Valdez and charged him with Driving Under the Influence and Refusal to Submit to a Breath Test.
Fireworks: Fireworks were reported around Betty Cato Bridge and Homestead Road. Officers were unable to find anyone lighting off fireworks.
9-8-16 Valdez EMS responded to an individual who was injured in the face. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.
9-9-16 Valdez Fire Department responded to fire alarm activation at Bear Paw RV Park. After investigation of the area, the activation was a false alarm.
9-10-16 Valdez Search and Rescue responded to an individual who had fallen at Worthington Glacier. The patient was treated at the scene and medivac’d directly to Anchorage for medical care by the USCG.
9-10-16 Valdez Search and Rescue responded to a 9 year old child that was lost on Gold Creek trail. The child was finally located.
9-10-16 Valdez Fire Department responded to a possible gasoline spill.
9-11-16 Valdez Fire Department responded to a CO alarm. After investigation of the area, the culprit seemed to be a faulty CO alarm.
9-11-16 Valdez EMS responded to an individual needing medical assistance. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.
9-12-16 Valdez EMS responded to an individual having chest pain. The patient was treated at the scene.
9-13-16 Valdez EMS responded to an individual needing medical attention. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.
9-13-16 Valdez EMS assisted with a medivac request.
9-14-16 Valdez Fire to a fire alarm activation at the Civic Center. After investigation of the area, there was no fire found and the fire alarm was reset
9-14-16 Valdez EMS responded to an individual needing medical assistance.
9-15-16 Valdez Fire responded to a fire alarm activation at the Armory. After investigation of the area, there was no fire found.
9-17-16 Valdez Fire Department responded to fire at the Totem Inn Restaurant. The fire was extinguished and cause of the fire is under investigation.
9-18-16 Valdez EMS responded to an individual needing medical assistance. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.
9-18-16 Valdez Search and Rescue responded to a request to assist an injured hiker in the Keystone Canyon area. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.
