The Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has presented the City of Valdez with Preliminary copies of the updated Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) and Flood Insurance Study (FIS) for the City of Valdez, Alaska. FEMA has posted digital copies of the preliminary FIRM and FIS report materials for community members to review at the following website: https://hazards.fema.gov/femaportal/prelimdownload/

TRAPPING SAFETY CLASS

The Valdez Municipal Code Chapter 9.38 requires that all persons who trap within the Valdez City limits must register with the Valdez Police Department. The Valdez Animal Control Office will be conducting a trapping safety class and facilitate the registration process for the upcoming trapping season. At the time of registration trappers must show proof of completion of an approved trapping safety class and possess a valid trapper’s license issued by the State of Alaska. All trappers must register with the Valdez Animal Control Office prior to trapping within the city limits.

The required safety class will provide pertinent information on trapping safety, and a map of areas within the city limits where trapping is allowed or prohibited.

PUBLIC NOTICE

PERMANENT FUND INVESTMENT COMMITTEE

ONE (1) VACANCY TO SERVE A THREE (3) YEAR TERM

The City of Valdez is accepting applications from citizens who are interested in serving as a member of the City Permanent Fund Investment Committee. One vacancy exists due to term expiration. Members are appointed to represent the community-at-large. Appointees will serve a three-year term of office, expiring in October of 2019.

The Permanent Fund Investment Committee consists of the city manager, the city finance director, three members of the city council, three members from the community at-large, and an ex-officio member. The committee meets at least quarterly to determine general investment strategies and monitor results of the City Permanent Fund.

PROVIDENCE VALDEZ MEDICAL CENTER HEALTH ADVISORY COUNCIL

ONE (1) VACANCY TO SERVE A TWO (2) YEAR TERM

The City of Valdez is currently accepting applications to fill one vacancy due to resignation on the Providence Valdez Medical Center Health Advisory Council. This position is appointed by the Valdez City Council and shall each serve partial (two year) term.

Duties: The Health Advisory Council and its members provide feedback and guidance to Providence regarding the operation of community Health Care Facilities. All guidance received from the Health Advisory Council by Providence is non-binding and advisory only. The Council is comprised of qualified representatives of the community serving with the intent of assisting the Medical Center in its mission of providing quality health care in Valdez and improving community health and wellness. The Health Council has an advisory role in policy formation, strategic development and oversight of health care programs and services. Regular meetings are held monthly with occasional special events where attendance is expected.
