Police and fire report

and the Defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.)
Theft of Property: Several residences reported property stolen out of their unlocked vehicles. This case is currently under investigation; if you have any information please contact the Valdez Police Department. Please lock and secure your vehicles.
Suspicious Person: A caller reported that an adult male has been asking to play with their small children. This case is currently under investigation.
Burglar Alarm: A burglar alarm was set off at a local business. Officers responded and found cleaners who were not scheduled to be at the business that day.
Welfare Check: A welfare check was requested for a man who has not contacted his family for awhile. Officers attempted to find the individual but he had moved out of town in July.
Vehicle Theft: A vehicle was reported stolen between 5:30 am and 8:30am on 1/1/17. The vehicle was later found by the owner at a local business.
Vehicle in the Ditch: A vehicle was reported in the ditch on Thompson Pass. No one was injured and they were able to get the vehicle back on the road.
Citizen Assist: An officer assisted a motorist in moving their disabled vehicle off of the road.
Lost Property: A white 15 gallon diesel fuel can was reported lost in the Valdez area. If found please call the Valdez Police Department.
Abandoned Vehicle: An abandoned vehicle was reported. Officers contacted the owner and they will be moving the vehicle.
Welfare Check: A welfare check was requested for kids playing on the big snow hill across from city hall. By the time officers arrived the kids were already gone.
Order to Show Cause: Johns, Andrew, DOB 10/10/88, was issued an Order to Show Cause for failure to appear for calendar call.
Municipal Violation: A caller reported someone cutting trees down with an axe. Officers found where the trees were being cut but no one was there.
Found Property: A cell phone was reported found. To claim please call the police department with identifying information.
Order to Show Cause: Chaffin, Shelley, DOB 6/10/62, was issued an Order to Show Cause for failing to appear at a compliance hearing.
Mother Nature Damage: Part of a local business blew off from high winds and hit a parked vehicle
Trespassing: A local business asked how to have someone trespassed from their property. An officer gave the business their options on how to go about trespassing the individual.
Welfare Check: An employer requested a welfare check on an employee who hadn’t made it to work. The employee was stuck in their driveway and had to wait for a loader to get them out and finally made it to work.
Agency Assistance: A street sign was reported in the middle of the road. Maintenance was contacted to fix.
Mother Nature Damage: A totem pole was reported blown over. The owners were contacted to take care of the damage.
Traffic Hazard: A tree was blown over by high winds and blocking the road. The tree was removed to allow traffic to continue.
Mother Nature Damage: A light pole was damaged by high winds.
Disturbance Bar: A local bar reported a vehicle repeatedly going by and throwing fireworks at the bar.
Animal at Large: A caller reported an animal at large. An officer retrieved the dog and brought it to the shelter.
Welfare Check: A welfare check was requested for a vehicle sitting on the side of the road. The vehicle was on the side of the road because the owner was unable to get back into their driveway because of a snow burm.
Disturbance Other: A caller reported hearing a knock on their door and then footsteps on their roof. When officers arrived they found foot prints on the roof but did not find anyone.
1-2-17 Valdez EMS responded to an individual needing medical assistance. The individual was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.
1-4-17 Valdez EMS responded to a life alert system. Upon arriving on scene EMS was informed the individual was “testing” the life alert system.
1-6-17 Valdez Fire Department responded to an electrical fire at the loading ramp of the Valdez Small Boart Harbor. Valdez Police Department was on scene prior to the Fire Department arriving and assisted in extinguishing the electrical fire.
1-7-17 Valdez Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at Mt Sky Hotel. The fire department personnel inspected the hotel area, there was fire odor but no fire was located. The fire alarm was reset.
1-7-17 Valdez EMS responded to an individual needing medical attention. The individual was treated to the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.
