05/08

Stop & FI: Officers contacted a male individual sleeping in a vehicle at the Small Boat Harbor. He stated he was just sleeping and waiting for a spill drill in the morning.

Disturbance Other: A local business reported a combative patron trying to pick a fight with an employee. Officers contacted the individual and provided them transportation home.

Traffic Hazard: A dump truck was reported causing a traffic hazard after spraying rocks on Airport Road. Officers made contact with the business who stated they will take care of the problem.

Strange Activity: A concerned citizen called to report suspicious activity after seeing an individual in a black SUV on a computer for the past couple of nights all night long. Officers made contact and upon questioning the subject was playing games.

General Contact: Officers made contact with 2 small children who were trying to hitchhike to school. Officers made sure to get both children to their appropriate bus.

Civil Problem/Dispute: A citizen came to VPD to report someone had stolen their snowmachine. After investigation, it was determined the case was a civil problem but the individual agreed to return the snowmachine to the original owner.

MVA – D A Motor Vehicle Accident was reported to have occurred at mile post 50 of the Richardson Highway. A SUV was reported upside down however, no one was in or around the vehicle. The registered owner called VPD once they made it back to Valdez to report the accident and that they will have their vehicle towed.

Animal at Large: Several citizens reported a dog at large on the city dock. The ACO found the dog’s owner and issued them a warning for animal at large.

MVA – D A motor vehicle accident with damage was reported to have occurred at a local business after a vehicle hit a light pole then drove off. The vehicle was found and driver was found at the dock area. Upon investigation, there was no damage to the light pole and minimal damage to their vehicle. Par form was issued.

Traffic Complaint: A caller reported a driver burning rubber, speeding and driving over the traffic lines. Officers contacted said individual about their driving.

Traffic Hazard: A tube of grease was reported as dropped and ran over all over the highway causing a mess. It was gone upon officer arrival.

Bear Related Calls: A citizen requested help in removing a bear from her property. The bear has been on their deck, broke parts of it. Officers arrived and fired a couple of less lethal rounds and the bear left the area.

Disturbance Noise: A vehicle’s car alarm was reported as going off for some time. Officers contacted the individuals who had the vehicle’s hood up and was trying to get the alarm to shut off.

Welfare Check: A small child was seen reported walking down a downtown street in an early morning hour. Upon officer arrival, the parent was sleeping and was not aware the child left the residence and they were reunited.

Parking Problems: A local business reported a 4-wheeler was parked in front of their business for 5 days. An officer placed a 24 hour parking sticker on the 4 wheeler.

Traffic Complaint: A caller reported a driver in front of him was driving erratically and possibly smoking marijuana. The driver was located and was negative for marijuana.

Suspicious Activity: Street Closed signs were reported at some downtown intersections. Officers found removed the barricades.

DUI: Christian H. Von Kennen, DOB: 10/05/1983, of Anchorage was arrested for Driving under the Influence after officers investigated a report of a suspicious person trying to get into a vehicle. He registered a breath-alcohol content of.389.

Possible Drunk Driver: A vehicle was reported as swerving all over the fog line and center line heading inbound on the Richardson Highway. Officer’s made contact with the individual it was determined the driver didn’t have any signs of impairment but who has Parkinson’s.

Disturbance Other: Two people yelling at each other in front of a local business was reported. Officers contacted two individuals and they were separated.

Criminal Mischief: A vehicle was reported as egged by some neighbor kids. Officers responded and contacted the kids. The complainant had already contacted the landlord.

5-8-17 Valdez EMS assisted with a medivac request.

5-8-17 Valdez EMS assisted with an individual who needed medical assistance. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.

5-8-17 Valdez Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at Mt. Sky Hotel. After investigation of the area, no fire was found.

5-10-17 Valdez EMS assisted with an individual who needed medical assistance. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.

5-12-17 Valdez EMS assisted with an individual who needed medical assistance. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.

5-13-17 Valdez EMS were on standby during the annual Fly-In event at Pioneer Field.

5-14-17 Valdez EMS were on standby during the annual Fly-In event at Pioneer Field.

5-14-17 Valdez EMS assisted with an individual who needed medical assistance. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.
