Bomb Threat: A local business reported receiving a bomb threat so they evacuated the building. Officers responded to the area and investigated the building. Everything appeared to be fine and the store was able to reopen.

Public Service: An Officer assisted with traffic control on Galena Drive.

Fireworks: A report of fireworks near the Betty Cato Bridge was received. Officers responded to the area and found a couple of Juveniles shooting off fireworks. They were issued warnings and one received a provisional license violation.

Criminal Mischief: While on patrol an officer found new graffiti paint on the Cliffside. This is currently under investigation.

Fireworks: A caller reported fireworks on the park strip. Officers responded to the area and found three juveniles. One juvenile was issued a warning for fireworks use prohibited.

Animal at Large: A caller reported a large husky running around. An Officer responded to the area but could not find any loose dogs. He was later flagged down by the dog’s owner who was also looking for the dog.

Traffic Hazard: While on patrol an Officer came upon a fairly large pot hole on the Richardson Hwy. The Officer put some orange paint around it to warn motorists and informed DOT about the pot hole.

Bear Incident: A caller reported three brown bear cubs eating garbage in the landfill area on Saturday. The Animal Control Officer was notified and informed them to call when the bears were out there so they could be hazed.

Assist Medical: Officers assisted the Valdez Fire Department with a medical call at the Small Boat Harbor.

Animal Aggression: The Animal Control Officer was requested at the Valdez Veterinary Clinic for a report of an animal attack. This is still under investigation.

Bear Incident: A caller reported a bear in the dumpster that had no lid and was full. The Animal Control Officer was contacted and the Baler was requested to empty the dumpster.

Suspicious Person: A caller reported a white male with a shaved head on her porch asking to use the phone. She tried to get him to leave and he started walking around her property and then ran to a neighbor’s house. Another caller reported a man was at their window pressing his nose against the window looking inside. Officers responded to the area and were able to locate the man. He had gone into a residence to use the phone then fled the area.

Bear Incident: A caller reported a big bear was getting into garbage cans. An Officer responded to the area and chased the bear away. He then spoke to residents about picking up the garbage. The Officer later located the bear and hazed it.

Bench Warrant: Bruce Gary Hawthorn, DOB 07/30/1978, of Anchorage was arrested for two outstanding Anchorage Police Department warrants for Failure to Comply with Conditions of Probation on an original charge of Criminal Mischief bail $1000.00 cash and Failure to Comply with Conditions of Probation Anger Management on an original charge of Domestic Violence Assault bil $500.00.

Disturbance Noise: A caller reported kids outside of the house jumping on the trampoline and being loud. An Officer responded to the area and found a group of kids all having a lot of fun. They were very respectful and agreed to be quiet.

Bear Incident: A report of baby brown bears at the landfill was received. Officers responded to the area and hazed the bears. The bears left the area.

Threat: A local business called stating a man was causing a scene and threatening people. An Officer responded to the area and spoke to the individual. He was having a rough day and agreed to stay inside for the day.

Bear Safety: The Animal Control Officer gave a presentation to the Parks and Recreation employees.

Extortion: An individual called VPD to report that a person was threatening to post images on social media unless he paid money. An Officer spoke to the man and told him not to pay.

ATV: A caller reported an ATV towing a trailer with a person in it and cruising back and forth on the park strip. An Officer responded to the area but was unable to find any ATV’s towing trailers.

Animal at Large: A caller reported two dogs at large. The Animal Control Officer responded, caught one of the dogs but the other one ran away. The Animal Control Officer was able to locate the owner of the dogs and return them to the owner.

Traffic Complaint: A caller reported people crossed in front of a big state truck which caused the truck to slam on its brakes. An Officer responded to the area but could not locate anyone matching the description given.

Motor vehicle Accident with Damage: Two vehicles were involved in an accident with no airbags deployed and no injuries. One vehicle rear ended the other vehicle. An Officer responded to the area and issued a citation for due care to avoid collision.

Bike Patrol: An Officer patrolled the Small Boat Harbor area on his Bike.

Summons: Tiffany Carol Henning, DOB 03/03/92, of Valdez was issued a summons for Driving under the Influence.

06/01

Bear Incident: The Baler Facility called to report the brown bears are back at the land fill tearing it up. An Officer responded to the land fill but the bears were no longer in the area.

Threat: A caller reported that a man approached and hit his vehicle and was screaming at him. An Officer responded to the area and found the individual who was under control at that time. The individual claimed the guy put him in a hold and held his wrist. No further assistance was required.

Threat:A caller reported being threatened by an individual. An Officer responded to the area and spoke to the complainant regarding the threat.

Animal at Large: A caller reported that a dog was trying to get into her chicken coop and she has it in custody. An Officer responded to the area and impounded the dog. The Owner was out looking for the dog so the Officer returned the dog to the owner.

Trespassing: An employer requested two employees that were fired to be trespassed from the property. An Officer responded to the business and the former employees were trespassed from the property.

Animal at Large: While on patrol the Animal Control Officer found a dog at large. He returned the dog to the owner with a warning.

Camping Prohibited Area: A person called to report two motor homes camping at Robe Lake. The Animal Control Officer responded to the area and notified the individuals that they were in a no camping area. The individuals agreed to find a new place to camp.

Animal at Large: A caller reported a dog at large that is always loose. The Animal Control Officer responded to the area. The dog was back at home and the owner was given a warning for animal at large.

Bear Related Call: A caller reported a big black bear on Aspen Circle and running through the neighborhood. The bear ran into the woods.

Theft Access Device: A caller reported his debit card was used in Anchorage. This case is currently under investigation.

Traffic Hazard: A report of a man standing in the middle of the road barking at traffic was received. An Officer responded to the area but did not find anyone in the middle of the road or matching the description given.

Public Speaking/Appearance: An Officer gave an ALICE presentation/training at the teen center.

ATV: While on bike Patrol and officer stopped an ATV at the harbor. The Officer spoke to the driver regarding wearing a helmet.

Parking Problems: While on patrol an Officer stopped with a vehicle parked at an odd spot on the Richardson Hwy. The Officer contacted the owner of the vehicle, everything was fine.

Bear related Call: A caller reported the black sow with three cubs was across the street from her house on Clark. An Officer responded to the area and set off a few rounds to run them off.

Fish & Game: A caller reported a possibly wounded bird – possibly a swan. The Animal Control Officer responded to the area and found the swan grazing. It seemed to be fine; the Animal Control Officer would continue to monitor it.

Disturbance Other: A business called to report an incident with two individuals and wanted them trespassed from the business. An Officer responded to the business but the individuals had left. They were located later and told that they were trespassed from the business.

Theft Vehicle: The Harbor Master called on behalf of a customer to report a missing vehicle. An Officer responded to the harbor and was able to locate the vehicle in the dry dock area. This was a case of “forgot” where he parked. No damage to vehicle.

Theft of Money: A local business called to report money missing from a drawer. This case is under investigation.

Harassment: An individual reported being harassed. An Officer responded and spoke to both individuals and advised them to not speak or make gestures to each other.

Welfare Check: A caller reported a motorcycle lying on its side in the ditch and no one was around. An Officer responded but was unable to locate a motorcycle or anyone in the area.

Domestic Assault: A man called to report his wife assaulted him but he did not need medical attention. Officers responded to the residence and upon investigation found there was no assault. The parties were separated for the night.

Fraud: A caller reported that her Western Union account had a fraud attempted. They tried to transfer money from two of her bank accounts and change her Western Union profile.

Lost Property: A person reported losing their Camouflaged backpack with a purse and I-pad inside, while biking in the area of the Fat Mermaid on Saturday May 27. If found please return to the Valdez Police Department.

Found Property: A debit card was found near Silver Bay Seafoods. Please contact the Valdez Police Department with a description to claim.

Bear related Call: The Animal Control Officer called to report a large black bear at the salmon turnaround area and a couple of cars were stopped.

Parking Problems: While on patrol an Officer saw a vehicle parked at the Animal Shelter after hours. The Officer stopped to speak to the individual who was trying to find the Veterinary Clinic. The Officer assisted the individual in finding the Veterinary Clinic.

Bear related Call: A caller reported a small black bear had gotten into the garbage dumpster and had a bag of garbage on the ground. The caller was parked very close to the dumpster and stayed in the vehicle until Officers could arrive. An Officer responded and chased the bear away which then ran over to Wortmanns Lane and grabbed a cooler out of a boat and ran into the brush.

Domestic Non-arrest: A caller reported their significant other had been drinking and when they tried to get them to stop, threats were made against them. Officers responded to the residence and found it was a verbal dispute. Officers were called back to the residence and the parties were separated for the night.

Public Speaking/Appearance: Officers assisted with the Bike Rodeo.

Fraud: A business requested an Officer to verify a female who’s ID did not match her appearance. An Officer responded to the business and spoke with the individual. The individual was issued a citation for false information.

Summons: Mercedes Cecilia Nance, 06/05/98, of Tennessee was Summons for making a False Report.

Sounds of shots fired: A caller reported hearing five gunshots. An Officer responded to the area and spoke with three different residents that were outside. Two of the residents said it happened more toward the east by the baler facility. The Officer drove around the area but was unable to locate or hear any more gunshots.

Bear related Calls: A caller reported a black bear had drug a bag of garbage into her back yard and was going through it. Officers responded to the area and hit the bear with a bean bag and it ran into the bushes. Officers spoke to individuals about the garbage.

06/04

Assist EMS Crew: Officers assisted the Fire Department with a medical call.

Disturbance Bar: A caller reported a disturbance at the bar and requested an Officer. Officers responded to the scene but the problem had resolved itself before they arrived.

Citizen Assist: An Officer responded to the Sr. Citizen Center to assist an individual that was having problems with a key and could not get into her apartment.

Missing Person: A mother called to report her daughter was missing. Officers spoke with the mother and were able to locate the daughter. The daughter was returned safely home.

5-30-17 Valdez EMS responded to a request for an individual needing medical treatment. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.

5-31-17 Valdez EMS responded to a person needing medical assistance after falling from their wheelchair. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.

6-2-17 Valdez Fire Department responded to fire alarm activation at the Valdez Senior Center. Upon investigation of the area, the culprit was burnt food.

6-2-17 Valdez EMS assisted with an individual who needed medical assistance. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.

6-4-17 Valdez EMS assisted with an individual who needed medical assistance. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.
