07/03

Domestic Non-arrest: A caller reported that someone was yelling at her and refusing to leave. An Officer responded to the area and gave the man a ride to his residence. Verbal only, no arrest.

Bear Incident: Officers responded to the Goldfields softball complex to post wounded bear signs and look for the wounded bear. The bear was not seen in the area.

Lost Property: A caller reported that they lost a Long Colt .45 gun in the Valdez Glacier area. If found, please turn in to the Valdez Police Department.

Bear Incident: A caller reported a bear in her neighbor’s yard. The Animal Control Officer responded to the area, spoke to the complainant and searched the area for the bear. The bear had left the area.

Gunshot Heard: A caller reported hearing a sound like a gun going off by Richardson Highway. An Officer responded to the area and spoke with an individual who stated they thought it was fireworks. The Officer patrolled the area but did not find anyone with a gun or fireworks.

Animal Bite: A young child was bitten by a family dog. The Animal Control Officer investigated the incident and the dog was quarantined at the Valdez Animal Shelter.

Sex Offender Register: An individual came to the Police Department to register as a sex offender.

Fish & Game: A caller reported that they had caught a bird with their fishhook. The fishhook was caught in its wing. The Community Safety Officer responded to the area, the hook was removed and the bird was released.

Misrouted 911: A caller from the McCarthy area requested an ambulance for a man that had punctured his lung. This call was forwarded to MATCOM.

Traffic Hazard: An individual called to report that their vehicle had broken down on Airport Road, that he had moved it off the road, and that he would have it towed in the morning. No other response was needed.

Bear Incident: While on patrol the Animal Control Officer reported a black bear and cub by the tide flats and several people were gathering to watch it. The cars were off the road. The bear left the area and the traffic was cleared.

Bear Incident: A caller reported a black bear with a cub in the trees, several people around, and a man with a gun. The Animal Control Officer responded to the area but did not see a bear or anyone in the area.

Fish & Game: A caller reported 3 people fishing at the weir. An Officer responded to the area but there was no one fishing at the weir.

Bear Incident: A caller reported a small black bear hanging out in their neighborhood. It has been sighted multiple times in the area and is very comfortable around humans. The caller was worried because there are a bunch of children and dogs that live in the area. An Officer responded to the area but the bear had left.

Bear Incident: A caller reported a brown bear in her yard that was trying to get into her house. An Officer responded to the area but the bear had left the area.

Fireworks: Valdez Police Department received a report of fireworks being lit on City Property. An Officer responded to the area and spoke with the complainant and the people involved.

Fireworks: A report of people shooting fireworks and throwing them into Ruth Pond was received. An Officer responded to the area and contacted a group of people who agreed to throw the bottle rockets in the garbage.

Possible Drunk Driver: A caller reported following a Mini Wini RV headed to Valdez that was constantly on the left side of the road and crossing the yellow line. An Officer responded but was unable to locate any vehicle matching that description.

Bear Related Calls: A caller reported a brown bear in her yard getting into the boat and grease/oil. An Officer responded to the area, and the bear ran into the bushes as the Officer drove up. The bear was later spotted at the neighbor’s house getting into the garbage cans. An Officer responded and the bear ran past him toward the mountain.

Fireworks: A caller reported cannery workers in the parking lot setting off fireworks was received. An Officer responded to the area, spoke to a family at dock point who said some guys were there earlier shooting fireworks but they moved on. Another Officer contacted a group of cannery workers and sent them down to the end of the spit where they can shoot fireworks.

Agency Assistance: A person called to report waking up to a message from her ex boyfriend stating that he had a gun, knew how to use it and wanted to commit suicide. This information was passed on to the Washington Police Department.

Theft Vehicle: A caller reported his blue mercury Villager minivan was stolen from the dry dock area. Vehicle was unlocked and keys were not in it. An Officer responded to the area and located the vehicle in the dry dock area near the boat launch. The owner was contacted and retrieved the vehicle.

Welfare check: While on Patrol an Officer found a person passed out at Dock Point. His crew came back to scoop him up and take him back to the boat.

Fireworks: A caller reported huge, house-shaking mortar rounds being set off. Complainant called back again to state she had spoken to some young adults regarding the fireworks and they agreed to stop firing off the mortars. No further action was required.

Domestic Assault: A caller reported a possible DV in progress in the room beside his. An Officer responded to the area. Everything was fine; it was a verbal dispute only.

Stop Field Investigation: While on patrol and Officer stopped with a vehicle that was parked in the snow lot. Everything was fine; someone was sleeping in the backseat.

Bear Related Calls: While on patrol, an Officer ran off a big bear from the Landfill.

Citizen Assist: A caller reported that she was locked out of the Senior Center and would like help getting back in. An Officer responded and was able to let her back into the Senior Center.

Animal Bite: A person at the Animal Shelter was bitten by a dog and sent to the Hospital.

Public Appearance: Officers assisted with the Fourth of July parade.

Bear Related Call: A caller reported a bear at Pioneer Cemetery. Officers patrolled the area but did not see any bears.

Lost Property: A man called to report he lost his wallet at C J’s gas station. If found please turn into the Valdez Police Department.

Animal Related: While on patrol the Animal Control Officer spoke to people about letting their dogs run loose at Robe Lake.

Bear Related Calls: While on patrol the Animal Control Officer hazed two brown bears away from the Landfill.

Civil Problems/Dispute: A person stopped by the Police Department to discuss a civil matter with an Officer.

ATV: While on patrol, an Officer stopped an ATV and issued the driver a warning for driving without a helmet.

DUI: Laubenstein, Shane DOB: 06/15/84 of Wasilla was arrested for Driving Under the Influence. His Portable breath test was 0.241.

Theft Vehicle: A caller reported that he saw a lady “joy riding” in his loader by Glacier Stream heading outbound.

Arrest: Bolton, Angela Marie DOB: 06/18/69 of Anchorage was arrested on Vehicle Theft 2nd Degree and Misconduct Involving Weapons 5th.

Animal Impound: A person picked up a Brindle Boxer/Pit on the Richardson Highway and dropped it off at the Animal Shelter. The dog was from Eagle River, according to its chip.

07/05

Fireworks: Dispatch received numerous fireworks complaint calls after midnight. Officers patrolled the town and spoke with various people shooting off fireworks and requested them to shut down the fireworks.

Disturbance Noise: A caller reported that the boardroom has their music cranked pretty loud. An Officer responded to the area and the music was turned down.

Intoxicated Pedestrian: A caller reported a man passed out on the sidewalk in front of a local business. An Officer responded to the area and assisted by giving the man a ride to his residence.

Suspicious Vehicle: A vehicle was parked with its lights on outside of a building. An Officer responded and found a person taking a nap waiting for someone. Everything was fine and they left the parking lot.

Found Property: An I-phone was found in the parking lot of the Animal Shelter by the Utility Building. Call the Valdez Police Department with identifiers to claim the phone.

ATV: A caller reported a person on an ATV going too fast with kids on their lap heading to town. An Officer spoke to the driver and he was not traveling fast and the kids had helmets on. No violation.

Theft of Property: Harris Sand and Gravel called to report a theft of property. This case is under investigation.

Criminal Mischief: The Harbor called to report a woman yelling and cussing out customers at the Harbor and kicking someone’s car. The individual was picked up by a family member. Officers responded to the Harbor and later contacted the female at her residence and issued a Disorderly Conduct warning.

Agency Assistance: A vehicle broke down at Mile Post 38-40. It was off the road at the gravel pull-out past Worthington Glacier. An off duty Officer who was heading to Valdez stopped to assist the family and gave them a ride into town.

07/06

Fireworks: A caller reported hearing what sounded like 2 shots, stating that they were definitely not fireworks. He called again stating he heard 2 more and did not see anything in the sky. An Officer responded to the area and found 2 individuals lighting off fireworks. They were done for the night.

Theft of Property: Orca Bay Trading Post called to report theft of 4th of July decorations. This case is currently under investigation.

Theft of Property: A caller reported that his generator had been stolen, and he believed someone was stealing gas from his tank by his house. An Officer responded to investigate the incident.

Bear Related Calls: Glacier Campground reported a black bear hanging around camp spots. The Animal Control Officer responded to the area, found food at the camp spot and the bear had gotten into the food. The campers were left a door hanger since they were not around.

Parking Problems: While on patrol, the Animal Control Officer found a vehicle parked on the bike path.

Traffic Hazard: A caller reported that they have followed a vehicle since Chitina and observed it swerving into other lane and overcorrecting. At construction the caller was able to obtain descriptors of the driver. An Officer was able to locate the vehicle and the driver was negative for any kind of impairment.

Lost Property: A caller reported losing or having his bag stolen while he was at the pool. It was a purple/black ‘Madden Girl’ neoprene bag, like a giant handbag containing a men’s bi-fold wallet, black I-phone 6 in a black life proof case, the caller’s clothes and pink clothes for a 4 year old girl. If found please return to the Police Department.

Lost Property: A caller reported he lost a black ‘Jetsport’ backpack at the boardroom. It contained some artist sketchbooks/drawing books. If found please turn in to the Valdez Police Department.

Welfare Check: While on patrol, Trooper Beck was flagged down by someone that told him a vehicle was parked at a local bank and the person was passed out. Trooper Beck responded and found a local cab driver taking a nap. No further action required.

Bear Related Call: A report of a black bear with two cubs tearing into a trash can was received. An Officer responded to the area but the bears were not around.

07/07

Fish & Game: A caller reported two men wearing headlamps clubbing fish in the weir and loading them into a cooler. An Officer responded to the area and contacted the individuals who were correctly using rods and 350 feet from the weir. No further action required.

Possible Theft: A caller reported that he was awoken by someone starting up his GMC 5000 flatbed truck. By the time he went outside the door was open but no one was around. An Officer responded to the area but did not find any suspicious looking people in the area.

Hazardous Materials Spill: While on patrol the Animal Control Officer found a 150 gallon blue plastic tank that was leaking significant fluid by the roadside. The Fire Department responded and found roofing tar that was not currently leaking. Several gallons had leaked in the area and would be cleaned up by the local resident.

Camping Prohibited Area: While on patrol, the Animal Control Officer found a motor home camping in a no camping area. He advised them of no overnight camping and they agreed to comply.

Found Property: A person found a Diabetic kit in front of the Totem Inn and turned it into the Police Department. If you have lost your Diabetic Kit call the Police Department with identifiers to claim.

Suspicious Vehicle: A woman reported a camper parked by the elementary school playground. She was concerned for the safety of the kids currently playing. An Officer responded to the area and found the responsible party enjoying the playground.

Arrested: Edward P. Vlasoff, DOB: 05/11/1972 of Tatitlek was arrested by Alaska State Troopers on an outstanding Arrest Warrant for DV Assault 4 and was brought to the Valdez Jail where he is currently being held on $2500 cash bail and court approved third party custodian.

Public Speaking/Appearance: A tour of the Police Department was given to 13 children.

Fish & Game: While on patrol the Animal Control Officer saw people fishing in the weir and stopped to clear them away from the weir area.

Camping Prohibited Area: A caller reported a camper setting up by the hatchery. A Community Service Officer reported to the area and found they were just eating dinner and planning to leave the area.

Animal Bite: A report of a dog bite was received. An Officer responded to investigate and the call was turned over to the Animal Control Officer.

Fish & Game: A caller reported people fishing in the weir. The Community Safety Officer responded to the area and all the people were fishing at least 300 feet from the weir on the left side.

Disturbance Noise: A caller reported loud music and talking that was keeping them awake. An Officer responded to the area and found the music was not too loud.

07/08

Traffic Hazard: It was reported that the sign to warn drivers about the racing bicyclists at duck flats was not lit up. An Officer responded to the area to try to turn the sign on but it was locked up. The responsible party was located and they said they would turn the sign on.

Driving Under the Influence: Frank Edmund Cook, DOB: 1/03/49 of Valdez was arrested for DUI, his Portable breath test was 0.080.

Agency Assistance: A caller reported that a tractor trailer had jackknifed in Thompson Pass on the southbound lane with zero visibility due to fog. A second caller reported the driver was unhurt and the vehicle was not blocking the road. An Officer responded to the scene and put out flares.

Motor Vehicle Accident- Damage: A caller reported an accident between two RV’s at Bayside RV Park. An Officer responded to the area and spoke with both parties and assisted with the drivers exchanging information. This occurred on private property.

Bear Related Calls: A caller reported a neighbor leaving their trash out which was attracting bears. The Community Safety Officer responded to the area and spoke to the resident who will take care of the garbage better and keep it in a container.

Traffic Hazard: While on patrol an Officer stopped with a woman who had lost her cooler and the contents were scattered all over. He assisted her with cleaning it up.

Fish & Game: A caller reported people fishing in the weir. An Officer responded to the area and contacted a number of people and got them to move away from the weir.

07/09

Criminal Mischief: A caller reported a 6’ man kicking at the door of a local business. Officers responded to the area and found the individual. His Portable breath test was 0.144. He was released to his captain.

Assist EMS Crew: Officers assisted the EMS Crew with an elderly patient.

Parking Problems: Allison Point camp manager called to report parking problems and wanted assistance. The Community Safety Officer responded to the area and spoke with several individuals.

Parking Problems: While on patrol an Officer stopped with a couple of vehicles that were parked on the bike path. He contacted the group of fisherman and they agreed to move their trucks.

Possible Drunk Driver: A caller reported a driver who was swerving all over the road. An Officer located the vehicle and spoke to the driver who was negative for alcohol. The driver stated she was going under the speed limit and it was irritating some people.

Parking Problems: A caller reported a vehicle blocking the roadway. An Officer responded to the area and put a hanger on the car and told him not to block the road.

Traffic Complaint: A caller reported a vehicle blew the stop sign at airport road and was speeding into town. An Officer located the vehicle and issued a warning for failure to stop at stop sign.

Disturbance Noise: A caller reported someone drunk in the hallway and yelling. An Officer responded to the building and investigated the situation.

Bear Related Calls: A caller reported a bear walking in the park. An Officer responded but the bear had left the area.

Open Window: A caller reported a window open at a local business. An Officer responded to the business but was not able to secure it. The officer closed it the best he could and contacted the owner.

911 Hang-up: A caller reported a man and woman fighting in the dorms. Officers responded to the area, contacted the female and male, and they were just arguing. They were told to keep it down.

General Contact: While on patrol an Officer stopped to talk to a man and his daughter that were cleaning fish.

Lost Property: A simple black wallet containing driver license, fishing license, health cards and more has been reported missing. If found, please bring it to the Valdez Police Department.

6-26-17 Valdez Search and Rescue responded to an individual needing assistance at Worthington Glacier.

6-28-17 Valdez Fire Department responded to an unauthorized fire in the Old Town area.

6-28-17 Valdez Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire.

6-29-17 Valdez EMS responded to an individual needing medical assistance. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.

6-30-17 Valdez Fire Department responded to fire alarm activation at Keystone Hotel. After investigation of the area, no fire was found.

7-1-17 Valdez EMS responded to an individual needing medical assistance.

7-2-17 Valdez EMS responded to an individual needing medical attention. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.
