Welfare Check: A welfare check was requested on a child whose mother was unable to contact the custodial guardian. Officers made contact with the guardian and found everyone to be ok.

Bear Incident: A large brown bear was roaming around the area of Meals Hill Rd. and had chewed up a snowmachine seat and the top of a septic tank.

Bench Warrant: Brandon Lance Totemoff, DOB 01/02/1984, of Valdez was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear for calendar call. Original charge was Assault 4. Mr. Totemoff was released on bail of $100.

Theft from Vehicle: A vehicle was reported having parts missing from it. This case is under investigation.

Bear Incident: A large brown bear was reported wandering around Cottonwood Subdivision.

Domestic–Non-Arrest: A couple in the process of a break-up was having issues. An Officer contacted the individuals and one of them had left and everything appeared to be fine.

Traffic Complaint: A semi-truck driving inbound on the Richardson Hwy was reported to be driving all over the road. An Officer contacted the driver who was negative for impairment and stated they were pulling over the fog line so the complainant could pass.

Violate Conditions of Release: Christopher Lance White, DOB 09/18/1969, of Valdez was arrested for Violating Conditions of Release for providing a positive sample when his release conditions stated that he could not consume alcohol. Original Charges were DUI and Avoid Ignition Interlock Device. Mr. White was held at the Valdez Jail until he appeared at mandatory arraignment. He was released on an unsecured performance bond of $500 and Electronic Monitoring Conditions.

Barking Dog: A dog on Resurrection Loop was reported barking for hours. The owners were contacted and the dog was brought back inside the house.

Animal at Large: A husky mix was reported running loose at North Pacific Rim Housing. An Officer drove through the area and contacted the responsible party of the dog and they brought the dog inside.

Barking Dog: An ongoing issue of a dog continuously barking was reported in Simmons Trailer Court. This case has been passed on to the Animal Control Officer.

Burglar Alarm: A burglar alarm was activated at a local business. An Officer contacted the responsible party and found everything to be ok.

Noise Disturbance: Excessive noise was reported coming from the harbor. An Officer contacted the individuals and advised them to turn the music down. Two hours later, they were called in again for noise and loud music. They were issued a warning for Disorderly Conduct.

Welfare Check: A welfare check was requested on a truck that appeared to be stuck by the river. The caller was concerned for the infant that was in the vehicle. An Officer contacted the individual and provided assistance to get them unstuck.

Assist EMS: Officers assisted EMS with a medical call.

Runaway Juvenile: A juvenile had run away after he was advised he would be attending military school. The juvenile was later found with his mother.

DUI: While on routine patrol, an Officer observed a vehicle driving on the highway exceeding the posted speed limit. The Officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop but the vehicle attempted to elude which caused the vehicle to go in the ditch. Subsequently, Samuel Vincent DeGange Aschenbrenner, DOB 09/29/1990, of Chugiak was arrested for Driving under the Influence and Reckless Driving. He registered a breath-alcohol content of .178. He was transported to the Valdez Jail and released on bail of $500.

Harassment: A local business reported that an unknown female was harassing one of their employees.

Littering: VPD received a report from a Valdez residence that people have been dumping trash on his property.

Bear Incident: VPD dispatch has received several calls regarding the brown bear hanging out in town.

Arrested: Chris White, DOB: 9/18/69 of Valdez was arrested for Violating Conditions of Release from his original case of DUI & Avoiding Ignition Interlock when he failed a scheduled breathalyzer.

Theft of Property: A wallet was reported stolen from a grocery cart. The wallet was later found by another customer and it was returned to the owner.

Fraud: A caller reported that his computer was hacked and the hacker was now demanding money. The caller was advised not to give out any money.

Missing Person: A caller reported that his roommate had left for a walk a week ago and hasn’t been heard from since. Officers found the individual in Anchorage.

Reckless Driving: A Black GMC Sierra pickup was reported driving erratically down airport road. An Officer contacted the driver. He was negative for impairment and was issued a warning for reckless driving.

Assist EMS: VPD assisted EMS with a medical call.

Weapons – Firearm: A man was reported crossing the Richardson Hwy with a rifle in his hands. An Officer patrolled the area and didn’t locate anyone with a rifle. The officers did see individuals with cameras and tripods that were viewing a few bears.

Aggressive Animal: A dog reportedly attacked another dog. This case was forwarded to the Animal Control Officer.

Burglar Alarm: A commercial burglar alarm was reported going off at a local business. Officers responded and found everything to be ok and that the owner was on the premises.

Traffic Complaint: An individual on a motorized scooter was driving at a high rate of speed at Dock Point in the non-motorized area. Officers contacted the individual and advised him that he is not allowed to ride around in that area.

Alcohol Consumption: Two individuals were contacted that were drinking at Dock Point. They were advised that alcohol consumption was prohibited in the area.

Transport Other: While on patrol, an Officer contacted an individual walking alongside the highway. They stated that they had been drinking and did not want to drive so they were walking to town. The Officer provided transportation and got the individual home safely.

Lost Property: An iPhone 7 in a thin navy blue case was lost around Mineral Creek Canyon or on Hanagita. If found, please turn in to the Valdez Police Department.

Burglar Alarm: A burglar alarm was activated at a business. An Officer contacted an employee who was trying to get in to the building.

Stop Field & Investigation: An Officer contacted an individual who was near Valdez Glacier Lake. The individual had seen a pickup with junk in the back pass by them, but when the pickup drove back by the junk was no longer in the back. Officers located items that had been dumped in the area. VPD would like to remind residents to dispose of garbage properly.

General Contact: An Officer contacted an individual who was smoking marijuana in their vehicle in front of a local business. The individual was issued a warning for smoking marijuana in public.

5-3-18 Valdez EMS responded to an individual needing medical attention. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.

5-4-18 Valdez EMS responded to an individual needing medical attention. The patient was treated at the scene.

5-5-18 Valdez EMS responded to an individual needing medical attention. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.

5-8-18 Valdez EMS responded for a public assistance request.

5-9-18 Valdez EMS responded to an individual needing medical attention. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.

5-9-18 Valdez EMS responded to a motor vehicle accident. Driver and passenger declined treatment.

5-10-18 Valdez EMS put on a Public Education review at the Valdez Middle School.

5-12-18 Valdez EMS responded to an individual needing medical attention. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.

5-12-18 Valdez EMS were on standby during the annual Valdez Fly-In event.

5-13-18 Valdez EMS were on standby during the annual Valdez Fly-In event.
