Voters in the upcoming Valdez elections have many choices when it comes to candidates this year.

The October 1 elections have 13 candidates vying for three seats for city council and five candidates for two seats on the board of education.

The help voters get to know candidates, there will be a “Meet the Candidates” forum this Wednesday, September 18 at the Valdez City Council Chambers. Organizers say it will begin promptly at 6:30 p.m.

The forum is open to the public and all candidates for council and school board have been invited to attend.

Tony Gorman, news director for KCHU public radio, and Lee Revis, editor of the Valdez Star, will moderate the forum.

It will run something like this according to organizers: Attendees will be asked to submit written questions to moderators, who will in turn read questions to candidates.

School board candidates and hopefuls for city council seats will be questioned in two segments.

Questions will be addressed to all candidates.

The forum will not be broadcast on local radio, so it is important that voters attend in person according to organizers.

Voters looking for information on this upcoming event can call 835-2405.
