Eight year sentence for 2013 bar stabbing

Valdez man was found guilty by jury in October of 2014

A Valdez man was sentenced to over eight years in prison Thursday for stabbing another man outside of a bar.

Judge Dan Schally sentenced Robert Goldstein, age 36, to eight years and 11 months in prison.

Goldstein was convicted on four counts of assault and one count of possession of methamphetamine - all felonies – after a September 2014 jury trial.

The victim, Cory Taylor, suffered seven knife wounds to the face and upper torso, including at least one wound that punctured a lung. Taylor was uncooperative with police and emergency responders at the time of the stabbing and was tasered by police.

Taylor had previously spent time in jail for assaulting Goldstein before the stabbing incident.

Goldstein has been in police custody since his conviction.
