The Valdez Star - Serving Prince William Sound and Copper River Basin

Edward E. Haltness Jr.

March 16, 1943-February 25, 2015

On February 25 of this year the Haltness family lost our loving Father and Grandfather, Edward E. Haltness Jr.

Dad was born on March 16, 1943 to Edward E. Haltness (Sr) and Violet Makarka. He was raised by paternal grandparents Isaac and Cecilia Woodman in Valdez, where he attended primary and secondary schools. After high school Dad enlisted in the US Navy and was stationed in Southern California. With the Navy he was employed as a Helicopter Mechanic and served in the Bugle Corp as music was a lifelong passion.

In early 1964 Patricia McGill, (his high-school sweetheart and our mother) joined him to be married shortly after.

Upon his discharge and return to Alaska, Dad worked in the Airline industry for Wien and Reeves Aleutian with a short stint in Seattle for Boeing on the production of the early 747. Eventually settling in Valdez, Dad held several vocations; Fisherman, Laborer, Teamster, Musician, Bartender/Manager, Longshoreman, Sign Painter, Snowmobile and Motorcycle Dealer and ultimately Activities Bus Driver which allowed him to exploit his enjoyment of watching high school sports particularly basketball.

Dad's most devoted occupation was his role as Grandfather which provided him considerable joy. His grandchildren exemplify and embody his love and affection.

Edward E. Haltness Jr.

Our Father led a replete life on his terms and was very fortunate to find the love of two amazing women. His marriage to Jane in 1989 brought him the happiest days of his life. Dad and Jane shared a love of travel and the pleasure of spending time with friends and family.

Dad is preceded in death by our mother and leaves his wife, our beloved Jane; his children Edward (Sarah), Erik (Julie) and Jennifer (Chris) and most notably eight grandchildren; Ashley, Taylor, Miranda, Isaac, Allen, Owen, Trixie and Sailor.

Our family is grateful for the attention and love our Father was shown by his community in his final days.

A celebration of his life will be held this summer.
