THE VALDEZ COORDINATED Community Transportation Committee will be holding a PUBLIC MEETING on 5/20/15, Wednesday, 3:30-4:30 pm in the Connecting Ties conference room. We will be addressing Federal Funds that no longer exist for the (Low-Income to work) Voucher transportation. For teleconference call 835-3274 for the meeting number.


The Valdez Planning and Zoning Commission will NOT be holding a public hearing on

Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at 7:00 PM in the City Council Chambers. The original purpose of

the hearing was to take public testimony on the request from Harris Sand and Gravel for a

Conditional Use Permit for materials sorting (asphalt and concrete plants) for two (2) years

while the new harbor project is under construction. Harris Sand & Gravel is only placing office

trailers and a test lab on the property. This only requires a Land Use Permit (LUP), which does

not require a Notice of Public Hearing.

The area is located at 201 S. Harbor Drive (Tract S, Harbor Subdivision).

There are two (2) vacancies on the Library Board due to expiration of terms. The City of Valdez is accepting applications from citizens who would like to be considered for appointment.

The Library Board is an advisory board to the City Council. It is empowered to:

Receive, consider, and evaluate public input, opinions and recommendations regarding the care, staffing, equipping, and managing of the City Library; act in an advisory capacity to the City Council in regard to the planning and implementation of programs dealing with use and development of the City Library and its resources; make recommendations to the City Council regarding the Library budget of the City; develop policies and rules for conduct and frequency of its own meetings; and perform other activities as may be requested of it by the City Council.

There are (3) upcoming vacancies on the Port & Harbor Commission. The vacancies are due to the expiration of terms of three (3) members. The individuals appointed to this commission shall each serve a three (3) year term, expiring on June 30, 2018.

Applications may be obtained at City Hall between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. or by emailing the Deputy City Clerk at Applications will be accepted until 5:00 P.M., Wednesday June 10, 2015 for appointment by City Council on Monday June 15, 2015.

Any person desiring to submit his/her application for consideration by the City Council for appointment to this commission is invited to do so.

Description of Duties

The Port and Harbor Commission may recommend to the City Council policies relating to the city’s ports, harbor and transportation issues including, but not limited to seaport, airport and land terminals. The Port and Harbor Commission advises the city council on the following areas of public interest and concern:

• Valdez small boat harbor: development, design, operation, maintenance, tariffs and fees;

• Valdez port, including all docks: development, design, operation, maintenance, tariffs and fees and stevedore services;

• Valdez airport: development, design, operation, maintenance, tariffs and fees;

• Alaska Marine Highway: equipment, schedules, services and docks;

• Integration of systems: general integration of the air, highway and water transportation systems with the general and industrial development of the city;

• Vehicles for hire, taxicabs, buses and limousines: franchises, fares, routes and services;

• Hostler and cartage: service and tariffs within the city limits.
