Obituary: May Ellen Wallace

Walla Walla, Washington resident Mary Ellen Wallace, age 99, passed away June 1, 2015 at her home in Wheatland Village.

She was born February 17, 1916 to William Joseph Broderick and Laura Belle Smith in Aberdeen, Washington. In 1938 she married Jack Hadden Wallace in Ellensburg, Washington, where she was raised. After their marriage, the couple lived in Baker, Oregon until 1947, when she and her husband drove the Alcan Highway to Alaska and began homesteading near Copper Center. They also owned Alaska Freight Lines in Valdez. After Mr. Wallace passed away in 1985, Mrs. Wallace moved to Florence, Oregon, where she lived until 2011. In the fall of 2011, she moved to Walla Walla and into Wheatland Village.

Mrs. Wallace had no children and is survived by her niece, Jerry (Thomas) Mosgrove, her grandnieces, Michelle Liberty and Mary (Farrell) Traughber, as well as her grand nephew, David (Janna) Liberty, and their children and grandchildren.
