Snowmachine: A caller contacted VPD regarding snowmachines riding on the East Dike Trail where motorized vehicles are prohibited. VPD would like to remind citizen’s that it is against city ordinance to ride any motorized vehicles on the Mineral Creek East Dike Trail.

Found Property: Gloves were found on Pioneer Dr. Contact VPD with description to claim.

Welfare Check: A caller requested a welfare check because they believed the parents of young children were “passed out” and there might not be any heat in the residence. Officers responded to find that everything was fine, there was heat, and they didn’t detect any alcohol.

Animal Impound: Two small dogs were reported running loose in the parking lot of a local business. Both dogs were caught and surrendered the Valdez Animal Shelter.


Traffic Hazard: A man was reported walking down Pioneer trying to hit cars with two sticks. Officers made contact with the subject and told him to stop.


Loitering: A local business reported an intoxicated individual came into the business, laid down on the floor and went to sleep. Officers made contact with the individual and provided them transportation home.

Fish & Game: An injured sea bird was reported lying along side of the road. Officers assisted on bringing the bird to the animal shelter.

Arrested: Glen R Mills, DOB 05/29/70 of Valdez, was arrested for Driving Under the Influence after officers observed Mills lose control of his vehicle. Officers contacted Mills and continued their investigation which led to his arrest. Mills registered a breath alcohol content of .223.


Disturbance: A caller reported a woman yelling in a nearby apartment. Officers responded and discovered a couple having a verbal dispute over cigarettes. The parties were separated for the night and referred to the counseling center.

Fish & Game: A caller reported a possible injured bird in the street acting weird. Local trooper was unable to find an injured bird.

Possible Drunk Driver: A caller reported a truck swerving all over the roadway and peeling out of the parking lot heading to town. An officer made contact with the vehicle and discovered the driver had no impairment and that he was busy running a bunch of errands.


Disturbance: A caller reported that her neighbors were fighting. Officers responded and discovered no physical altercations and it was just verbal. Parties were separated for the night.

Fireworks: Multiple calls regarding fireworks or gunshots were reported at 10-mile early in the morning. Officers did not find anyone in the area lighting off fireworks.

Welfare Check: A caller reported a possible intoxicated male walking down the middle of the road on Meals Ave. Upon arrival, officers were unable to locate anyone walking down the middle of the road.

Assist EMS Crew: Officers assisted EMS with an individual having heart problems.

Civil Problem/Dispute: A caller requested to have an individual trespassed from their property due to civil and custody disputes. Officers made contact with the individual and had them trespassed.

MVA H&R: A caller reported the concrete ballard was hit in the hospital parking lot with no suspect vehicle. Officers investigated and were able to locate the vehicle that hit the ballard and caused the damage.

Domestic No Arrest: A caller reported their neighbors were having an ongoing domestic after hearing threats and screaming. Officers made contact with the individuals who both said they were having a verbal argument. The parties were separated for the night.

Stop FI: Officer made contact with a possible intoxicated pedestrian. They were looking for their dog and were on their way home.


Open Door: A door was reported open at a residence. An officer secured the residence.


Assist EMS Crew: Officers assisted EMS with a man who collapsed at the bakery.

Lost Property: A black bi-fold wallet was lost around Kwik Trip. If found please return to the Valdez Police Department.

Suspicious Person: An individual reported someone at the post office was trying to “jimmy” into one of the boxes and it didn’t look legit. Officers made contact with the custodian and everything appeared to be fine. Further contact with the post master was made to verify.


Alarm: A security company called in a burglar alarm at a local business. Officers responded and determined it to be the excavator that was plowing.

Arrested: Osvaldo Carrillo, DOB 07/10/87 of Valdez, was arrested early Monday morning after he was reported to be intoxicated and leaving the area in a vehicle. Officers contacted Carrillo and conducted FSTs. He was placed under arrest for Driving Under the Influence and additionally with Failure to Submit to a Chemical Test when he refused to provide a breath alcohol content test.

Lost Property: A black tri-fold wallet was lost in the Safeway parking lot. If found, please turn into the Valdez Police Department.

Serve Time: Dawson Moore, DOB 07/26/70 of Valdez, reported to the Valdez Jail to serve time on his original charge of Driving Under the Influence.

Arrested: Dustin Jester, DOB 10/27/90 of Wasilla, was arrested Monday night after dispatch received a report of a vehicle driving erratically. Officers contacted Jester and conducted FSTs. Jester was placed under arrest for Driving Under the Influence and furthermore for Driving without a Valid License and Violating Conditions of Release on a previous open case.


Traffic Complaint: A caller reported a driver pulled out in front of him an hour before reporting it. Dispatch took the information but officers were unable to locate anyone matching the description.

Unattended Death: Jeffrey L. Vincelette, DOB 05/21/56 of Valdez, was found deceased in his home Tuesday late afternoon after a welfare check was requested by a neighbor who hadn’t seen or heard from him. Next of kin has been notified.


VID: Officers stopped with a vehicle in the ditch on the Richardson Highway during routine patrol to make sure the driver was alright. A short time later, another vehicle arrived and assisted pulling the vehicle out of the ditch.

Alarm: A security company called in a panic alarm at a local establishment. Officers responded and reported it was a false alarm.

Public Assist: An individual reported he needed assistance with a medical issue. Officers responded but the individual had no medical problems, just wanted a ride.

Suspicious Person: Officers responded to a suspicious person at the Post Office picking at someone’s post office box. It was a worker changing the number tags so they would be the same throughout the building.


Animal at Large: A caller reported a dog with no collar at large in front of the Civic Center eating a rabbit. The Animal Control Officer responded and found the rabbit but was unable to locate the dog.

Harassment: Dispatch received a report of an individual continuously prank calling their business and that they knew who it was. Officers contacted the suspect and advised him to stop; the individual said he wouldn’t do it anymore.

Theft of Property: A caller reported his wallet stolen while he was at a local business on 12/30/15.

Fireworks: A local resident reported fireworks being set off on New Year’s Eve before 10 pm.

MIP/MCA: Zebadiah J. Fannin, DOB 10/07/96 of Valdez, was issued a citation for Minor Consuming Alcohol after officers contacted him drinking underage.

Arrested: Mary R. Kagak, DOB 12/02/80 of Valdez, was arrested after officers responded to a report of her physically abusing another individual. Officers contacted Kagak at her residence and after investigating, placed her under arrest for Assault 4th, Criminal Mischief 4th, and Criminal Mischief 5th.


Possible Drunk Driver: A caller reported an individual had been drinking and was currently driving and almost hit her vehicle in a parking lot. The individual was contacted and determined not to have been drinking.

Family Issues: Officers responded to a residence after a report of a verbally abusive male that had been drinking. The caller requested assistance with getting the man to leave. Officers transported the subject to another location.

Littering: A caller reported a neighbor left all their firework debris in the middle of the road. Officers contacted the individuals responsible and asked them to clean up the small mess.


Public Assist: Officers assisted an individual with a ride after he was stuck on the road with his vehicle due to black ice.

MVA: Dispatch received a report of two vehicles backing into each other in the Post Office parking lot. Officers responded. No injuries reported. PAR forms were issued to both drivers.

Traffic Hazard: A caller reported a grader was leaving large ice chunks in the middle of the road while plowing and that a vehicle heading in the opposite direction possibly just hit one. Officers responded to the area to make sure the driver was alright but there was no vehicle there. Officers contacted the driver of the grader and let him know that there were large ice chunks in the roadway. The driver came back and cleaned them up.

Fireworks: Officers were unable to locate anyone setting off fireworks in the Robe River Subdivision after they had been reported to dispatch.


Burglary: A caller reported a person inside a local business at approximately 4 in the morning and believed the individual gained access from the joint ceiling of a neighboring business. Officers responded and searched the entire building and building’s ceiling and were unable to locate anyone.

Arrested; Larry O. Hannaman, DOB; 10/31/75 of Valdez was arrested for violation of a DVPO, (Domestic Violence protective Order) and VCOR, (Violating Conditions of Release) in a pending Valdez case.

Welfare Check: A local resident requested a welfare check on an individual that lived out of state. Officers contacted the state the caller believed the individual was residing in and passed along the information.

12-25-15 Valdez Fire responded to a fire alarm activation at the SERVS Warehouse on Loop Road. After investigation of the area, it was deemed as a false alarm. 12-17-15 Valdez EMS responded to a medivac request.
