09/04

Traffic Complaint: Alaska State Troopers requested assistance with a speeding vehicle that was headed to Valdez from MP 29. Officers were unable to locate a vehicle matching the description.

Bench Warrant: Tristen Harvey, DOB 02/16/97, of Copper Center was arrested by Alaska State Troopers and transported to the Valdez Jail for two outstanding warrants for Failure to Appear for Arraignment on two Valdez cases.

Assault Simple: Osvaldo Carrillo, DOB 07/10/87, of Valdez was arrested for Assault 4 and Criminal Trespass 1.

Citizen Assist: While on patrol an Officer saw a vehicle that appeared to be in the ditch and stopped to investigate. Everyone was fine; they had pulled over to take pictures of Eagles.

Animal at Large: A caller reported a wet dog running around on Glacier Haul road. Officers responded to the area but were unable to locate a dog matching the description given. The Animal Control Officer did spot a coyote that might have been the animal at large.

Bear Incident: While on patrol the Animal Control Officer stopped to assist with crowd control at the Duck flats due to a bear sighting. The large black bear eventually went back into the brush and the traffic cleared.

Civil Issue: A caller requested to speak to an Officer regarding how to legally get someone out of their house who refused to move out. An Officer spoke to the individual.

Agency Assist: An Officer was requested to deliver trespass paperwork to an individual. The trespass notice was delivered.

Serve Time: Matthew Downing, DOB 12/30/93, of Valdez checked into the Valdez Police Department to serve 20 days for an original charge of Driving under the Influence.

Misrouted 911: A caller reported that a seiner had flipped by Spike Island outside the harbor. The dispatcher determined that was not in the Valdez area and was going to forward the call to Cordova Police Department but the individuals hung up and called them directly. Dispatch followed up to make sure they received the report.

Traffic Complaint: A caller reported that a trailer pulled out in front of her and almost made her wreck. An Officer responded and was unable to locate the vehicle matching the description given.

Traffic Complaint: A caller reported a person driving recklessly. An Officer responded to the area found the vehicle with no one inside. The driver was contacted but he denied driving recklessly and the Officer gave him a warning for reckless driving.

Animal Impound: A small dog was reported at large at Captain Joes. An Officer responded to the area and impounded the dog. The dog was taken to the Animal Shelter.

Gunshot Heard: caller reported hearing about 10 gunshots over the past five minutes coming from the area of Valdez Mobile Home Park. An Officer responded to the area but was unable to locate anyone shooting.

Bear Incident: A report of a black bear in someone’s yard heading towards W Klutina was received. The Animal Control Officer responded to the area and spoke to a bystander who saw the direction the bear was headed. After driving around for a while the Officer was unable to locate the bear.

Suspicious Vehicle: A caller reported that he was contacted by a male individual who was trying to arrange for a vehicle to be towed from the man camp to Anchorage. Caller wanted to verify the information and make sure the vehicle was not stolen. This case is still under investigation.

Fish & Game: A caller reported a possibly injured juvenile Eagle that can’t seem to get off the ground. The Animal Control Officer responded to the area and found that the bird was healthy and would recheck on it later.

Animal at Large: A caller reported a dog at large near the Glacier Stream Bridge. An Officer responded to the area but was unable to locate any dogs in the area.

Traffic Complaint: A bus driver reported a White Ford Van sped past the school bus even though the driver had plenty of time to stop. An Officer spoke with the bus driver who was unable to describe the driver and the license plate did not match the description of the vehicle. No further action taken.

Harassment: An individual called to report being harassed by their employer. An Officer contacted the employer and gave them a harassment warning.

Animal at Large: A caller reported two German Shepherds at large. An Officer responded to the area; spoke to some children at the playground whose dog had chased two other dogs. The Officer was able to locate the owner of the dogs. The Officer spoke to the owner about letting the dogs run free.

Fireworks: A report of an intoxicated man standing in the road shooting off fireworks and removing his clothes was received. An Officer responded to the area and spoke to the individual. He was not shooting fireworks or removing any clothing at that time and a warning was given.

Animal Noise: A caller reported her dog barking, it is an outside dog, she does not see anyone in the area but the dog won’t stop barking. An Officer responded to the area but did not see anyone or hear the dog.

Vehicle Theft: A caller reported that his vehicle had been stolen from S Harbor Dr around 7 PM. An Officer responded to the area and found the vehicle parked across the street from where the caller reported it taken. The Owner of the vehicle was contacted and they picked it up later in the day.

Aggressive Animal: A caller stated that while his wife was walking their dog, two dogs attacked their dog and his wife. The Animal Control Officer conducted an interview and this case is still under investigation.

Harassment: A caller wanted information on obtaining a stalking or protective order. An Officer spoke to the caller and explained the process.

Animal Protective Custody: The US Coast Guard contacted the Animal Control Officer regarding two dogs that needed shelter until the owners can make other arrangements. The dogs were impounded at the shelter.

Assault Simple: Steven Mekoryuk Nyberg, DOB 06/01/68, of Anchorage was arrested for Assault 4.

Smoke Visible: A caller reported smoke behind the Napa Building. An Officer investigated and found an attended fire behind the Downtown B & B.

Intoxicated Pedestrian: While on Patrol an Officer stopped to talk with an individual who was intoxicated. Medics were called to evaluate the person. He was assisted to his apartment.

Welfare Check: A welfare check was requested on a mother that was not reachable for two days. Officers responded to the residence and spoke to the individual who was fine.

Animal Impound: A caller reported a black lab with no tags running around loose at 10 mile causing a ruckus with other dogs in the area. An Officer responded to the area and impounded the dog. The dog was taken to the Animal Shelter.

Traffic Hazard: A caller reported a teenager skateboarding down Thompson Pass in the middle of the highway, with a dodge SUV type vehicle acting as a pilot car behind the skateboarder.

Welfare Check: A welfare check was requested. An Officer responded to the residence and spoke to the individual in question. Everything was fine and he said he’d call his Dad.

Animal Bite: A caller reported driving into Valdez from a hunting camp with a friend’s dog, when the dog bit his passenger. The caller released the dog at MP 10 since it was mean and "has bitten a bunch of people." One Officer responded to the hospital to speak with the individuals while another Officer tried to locate the dog at 10 mile. The dog was dropped off at the shelter later.

Parking: A caller reported that there were two or three thirty foot RV’s parked on N Harbor drive that were jutting out so far that there was only a single lane for traffic. An Officer responded to the area but could not locate the drivers. The rental company was contacted and they stated they would contact their clients to move them.

Citizen Assist: A man stopped by the Valdez Police Department to speak to an Officer regarding getting some help for a family member.

Citizen Contact: While on patrol an Officer stopped to talk with two individuals outside of the Container Terminal area. Everything was fine; one was on their dinner break.

Domestic Non arrest: A report of a man and a woman yelling and screaming at each other outside was received. Officers responded to the area and spoke to several individuals. The parties were separated for the night and no further action was taken.

09/10

Assault Simple: A man called to report that he was assaulted at the Boardroom last night. Officers contacted both parties involved. This incident is under investigation.

Citizen Assist: A caller reported that she had locked herself out of the Junior High and requested assistance to get her keys. An Officer responded and let the individual into the School.

Litter, Pollution, Public Health: A caller reported seeing a video posted on Snap chat of two individuals throwing bikes off the City Dock. Both individuals were contacted by police and admitted to throwing the bikes. Citations will be issued for littering.

Animal Noise: A report of a dog howling from the bushes behind a residence was received. An Officer responded to the location and found a dog tangled which he freed. The Owner was located and told to do something about the dogs barking.

9-6-17 Valdez EMS responded to an individual needing medical assistance.

9-8-17 Valdez Search and Rescue responded to three individuals in the Brown Creek area that needed assistance.

9-9-17 Valdez EMS responded to an intoxicated individual needing assistance.

9-11-17 Valdez EMS responded to a medivac request.
