Citizen Contact: Officers were flagged down by a local resident concerned about possible flooding issues in the area due to the recent heavy rains.

Phone Person: An individual was advised about possible solutions regarding their mentally unstable family member.

Theft Property: Officers investigated a report of the theft of some personal electronic devices from a residence.

Found Property: A snowbroom picked up on the Richardson Highway was turned in to the Valdez Police Department as found property. Please call the VPD with descriptors to claim.

Traffic Hazard: Officers contacted the owner of vehicle that had slid into the street from a driveway on Oumalik and was posing a traffic hazard.

MVA – Hit & Run: A parked truck sustained some damage to the drivers’ side from a hit and run accident while it was parked at either the Post Office or Safeway. If you have any information regarding this case, please call the VPD.

Phone Person: Officers spoke with an individual who was seeking information regarding the Alaska Landlord & Tenant Act.

Assist Medical: Officers responded to a local lodge to assist EMS with an adult male who had fallen and hit his head, but ended up assisting with an adult female who had also fallen, hit her head and was being belligerent and combative.

MVA – Damages: A driver was reported to have caused an accident after having a seizure while driving.

Assault Simple: Dispatch received an open line 911 call from a residence in which a loud verbal argument was occurring. Officers responded and contacted three individuals; one of whom was non-compliant, combative and was subsequently arrested and charged with assault.

Arrested: Larry McKenize Sherman, DOB 04/13/1980, of Valdez, was arrested on 2 counts of Assault 3rd Degree and one count of Disorderly Conduct.

Theft Other: North Pacific Rim Housing reported the theft of approximately $1200 worth of fuel from their fuel tank sometime over the past month. Anyone with any information, please call the Valdez Police Department.

Welfare Check: A caller requested a welfare check on his wife after she hadn’t answered the phone; he was concerned she had fallen and pulled the phone off the wall. Officers contacted the individual who had tripped over the dog and while falling pulled the phone off the wall, but she was wasn’t hurt. Officers fixed the phone before leaving.


MVA – Damages: Dispatch received a report of a silver colored car losing control while rounding a corner in Valdez Mobile Home Park, knocking over a sign and going off the road into some trees. Officers contacted all necessary persons who decided to handle the incident civilly.

Traffic Hazard: A large icefall was reported in Keystone Canyon to have completely blocked the road. Dispatch notified DOT who responded cleared the roadway.

Theft Property: A local business reported the theft of two Apple iPads approximately 2 weeks ago. Anyone with any information regarding this incident, please call the Valdez Police Department.

Summonsed: Jacob Alexander Poirier aka Jace Harmon, DOB 12/15/1998, of Valdez, was summonsed to appear in court on the charge of two class C Felony counts of Theft 2nd Degree.

Found Property: Alaska ID belonging to a male individual with the initials J.W.B was found in the Safeway parking lot and turned in. Please stop by the Valdez Police Department with valid identification to claim.

MVA- Injuries: A two car motor vehicle accident was reported to have occurred at the intersection of Egan and Meals. Both drivers were transported to the hospital by EMS. One citation was issued for Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign.

Suspicious Package: A complainant reported receiving a package at the post office with no return address that was addressed to her and her daughter. She found a flash drive upon opening the suspicious package and wanted an Officer to check it out. Officers responded and determined the flash drive contained pictures of her grandson.

Theft Money: The theft of approximately $600 to $650 from a purse that was stored in an employee locker was reported to have occurred at a local business sometime on December 6th. Anyone with any information, please call the VPD.

Welfare Check: A concerned caller reported his cousin was supposed to get a ride home from him after a date with an unknown male. She had texted, but given no location so he called her and heard a male voice saying to hang the phone up before the line went dead. Officers located the woman who was heavily intoxicated, but otherwise okay and gave her a ride to her residence.

Possible Drunk Driver: A blue 4-door vehicle was reported doing ‘brodies’ all over Valdez Mobile Home Park. Responding Officers contacted the driver and subsequently made one arrest.

Arrested: Thorin Heidel Washam, DOB 07/04/1979, of Valdez, was arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence. Mr. Washam provided a sample of his breath which showed a breath alcohol content of .226 at the time of his arrest.

Vehicle in Ditch: Officers contacted an individual in the process of digging out their vehicle in the ditch on Dylan Drive.

Fraud: A caller reported receiving a call from a “Jamaican person” who advised him that he had won money. No personal information was given, so Officers advised the caller to block the number and call the VPD if there were any further attempts at contact.

Family Issues: A snowball fight involving some neighborhood kids that ended with one child crying escalated into a situation involving contacting the VPD regarding proper parenting techniques and multiple Facebook rants.

Possible Drunk Driver: A caller reported light colored truck travelling in front of them heading inbound on the Tide Flats that was swerving all over the road and currently travelling in the oncoming lane. Officers contacted the driver who was then assessed by EMS and transported to the hospital.

Traffic Hazard: A white Chevy truck was reported as being parked in the middle of Salcha Way with its hood up, door ajar and no one visible in the area. Responding Officers found the same vehicle and driver from the report of a possible drunk driver on the Tide Flats earlier in the evening. The vehicle was impounded and the driver was given a ride back to the hospital.

Neighbor Issues: Some heated words were exchanged in a residential driveway over the temporary use of said driveway by non-residents.

Vehicle Inspection: Officers inspected a vehicle at the request of a local cab company.

12-11-17 Valdez EMS responded to an individual who had fallen and needed medical attention. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center

12-12-17 Valdez EMS responded to a single vehicle accident. The driver and passenger were treated at the scene.

12-13-17 Valdez Fire Department responded to a possible oil leak. The area was contained and the sheen was cleaned up.

12-13-17 Valdez EMS responded to an individual needing medical attention. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.

12-13-17 Valdez EMS responded to a 2 vehicle accident. Both parties were treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.

12-14-17 Valdez Fire Department responded to a possible oil leak. The sheen was contained to a small parking lot and cleaned up.

12-14-17 Valdez Fire Department responded to a possible chimney fire. Upon arriving to the scene the home owner had indicated it was a false alarm, and there was no chimney fire.

12-15-17 Valdez Fire Department assisted Prince William Sound College with some fire maintenance.

12-16-17Valdez EMS assisted with a medivac request.

12-16-17 Valdez EMS responded to an individual needing medical attention. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.

12-17-17 Valdez Fire Department responded to a possible propane leak. The area was investigated and secured.
