Police and Fire reports

Traffic Complaint: Juveniles were reported throwing eggs at other vehicles. An officer contacted the juvenile suspects who admitted to throwing the eggs. They were advised to stop.


Mother Nature: The City of Valdez received a Tsunami warning due to a 7.9 earthquake. City Department Heads monitored closely in preparation to activate the Tsunami Alarm. Due to the non-event of a tsunami in more vulnerable areas, activating the alarm was not necessary.

Animal Impound: A caller reported a pitbull was loose and wandering around her yard on Jago St and she was scared to get out of her car. An officer responded to the area and impounded the pitbull. The pitbull was released to its owner later in the day.

Animal Neglect: A concerned caller reported a small dog that looked like it was starving. The Animal Control Officer contacted the owner of the dog and advised them to take the dog to the vet and get it checked out.


DVPO: A long-term Domestic Violence Protection Order was served on an individual.


Controlled Substance: A large pill was found on the floor at the elementary school. An officer researched and found it to be an herbal supplement.

Found Property: A Lib Tech snowboard was found in the road at MP 12 of the Richardson Hwy. The snowboard was returned to the owner.


Possible Drunk Driver: VPD received a REDDI report (Report Every Drunk Driver Immediately) of a female who appeared to be intoxicated and was seen getting in to her vehicle and driving away from a local business. Officers responded to the area and contacted the woman after she was already home. She had admitted to taking some pain pills 6 hours prior and took more after she got home as well as smoking marijuana.

Disturbance: A local business requested an individual to be trespassed from their premises due to them harassing an employee. They were advised of the trespass.

Fish & Game: An eagle was reported deceased by the baler and two other eagles were feeding off of it. The eagle was left as it was not recoverable.

Intoxicated Pedestrian: An officer contacted two intoxicated pedestrians who were walking home.


Fish & Game: A moose calf was hit at MP 51 on the Richardson Hwy. Dispatch forwarded the call to Matcom who dispatched Alaska State Troopers to respond to the area and get it taken care of.

Traffic Hazard: A vehicle was disabled on the side of the road with a mangled tire. An officer assisted the individual and gave them a ride home while a tow truck transported the vehicle to a repair shop.

Theft of Property: A Dewalt Portable Space Heater was reported stolen from a residence at Valdez Mobile Home Park. If you have any information regarding this, please contact the Valdez Police Department.

Animal Impound: A Border collie mix was picked up by a passerby on Meals Ave. An officer transported the dog to the animal shelter.


Municipal Violation: A caller reported that several individuals were cutting wood without a permit in the 12 mile area. Officers made contact with the individuals who were preparing to ice climb.

Suspicious Person: VPD received a report that a man wearing full white camo carrying a rifle was walking around a residential area. Officers could not locate anyone matching the description, but did find a male juvenile dressed in black carrying a rifle who was headed out to do some bird hunting.

1-24-18 Valdez Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at the Valdez Post Office. After investigating the area, no fire was located and the alarm was reset. Possible problem with the alarm system and the Post Office Manager was notified.
