Suspicious Person: A caller believed that someone was in their house. An Officer responded and searched the home and didn’t find anyone else in the residence.

04/24

Welfare Check: A welfare check was requested on an individual who had kicked a door in because they thought they smelled smoke. An Officer contacted the individual who stated that no one was answering the door and wanted to make sure everything was ok.

Traffic Complaint: A vehicle was reported driving alongside the highway on the trail for ATV use. An Officer patrolled the area but was unable to locate a vehicle matching the description.

Violate Conditions of Release: Fred Gregory Mailoto, DOB 03/31/1973, of Los Angeles, CA was arrested for Violating Conditions of Release. Original charges were Burglary 1 and Burglary 2.

Possible Drunk Driver: A blue neon car was reported driving inbound on the Richardson Hwy crossing the center line and driving at a very slow speed. Officers responded immediately and were unable to locate a vehicle matching the description.

Animal Impound: A dog was captured by a citizen in Alpine Woods. An Officer collected the dog and brought it to the Animal Shelter.

04/25

Traffic Complaint: A caller reported an SUV almost hit them head on by Glacier Stream Bridge. Officers responded and were unable to locate a vehicle matching the description.

Abandoned Vehicle: A vehicle was left in the snow lot on Falcon Ave. for 3 days. An Officer contacted the RO and advised them to move it.

Bench Warrant: Corie J. Taylor, DOB 10/05/1983, of Valdez was arrested on a VPD Bench Warrant for Failure to Appear for Change of Plea Hearing. Original charge is DV Criminal Mischief.

04/26

Suspicious Person: Two individuals with flashlights were reported being on the roof of a local business. An Officer contacted the individuals who were working and cleaning the vents.

Animal Impound: The Community Safety Officer impounded a husky that was reported running loose in Robe River Subdivision.

Juvenile Info: A young child was reported leaving the school and walking to the babysitter’s house during school hours. The School Resource Officer contacted the child and had a conversation about obeying the rules and the child went back to school.

Assist EMS: Officer assisted EMS on a medical call.

Welfare Check: A welfare check was requested on an individual who had fallen on their bicycle. An Officer made contact with the woman who stated her dog ran after another dog, causing her to crash. Her son was on his way to pick her up and take her to the hospital. The Officer took the dog to her home.

Assist EMS: Officers assisted EMS with a patient who was being combative.

Stop Field & Investigation: An Officer gave individuals a warning for open alcoholic beverage containers.

04/27

Unattended Death: Officers investigated an individual who was found deceased in their home. This case is currently under investigation.

Traffic Complaint: A blue Dodge neon was reported almost hitting two vehicles head on. An Officer patrolled the area and was able to locate the individual. The driver was negative for any impairment but stated they were extremely tired. The Officer advised him to call someone to pick him up and to not drive until he was able to get some rest. The driver agreed and was able to get a ride.

Disturbance: Two individuals were reported arguing at the Small Boat Harbor. An Officer responded and contacted the individuals. One of the individuals was issued a warning for Disorderly Conduct.

04/28

Traffic Complaint: A white truck was reported passing other vehicles and driving erratically. An Officer contacted the young driver and educated him about driving behavior.

Traffic Complaint: A red truck drove through the part strip from Gulkana St to Oumalik. An Officer contacted the driving and issued a citation for Prohibition of Vehicles in a Restricted Area.

Assist EMS: Officers assisted EMS with a medical call.

04/29

Title 47 ETOH: VPD received a report of an individual behaving erratically. An Officer contacted the individual who was heavily intoxicated and didn’t know where they were. The Officer committed him as a title 47 as he was unable to care for himself. He was transported to the Valdez Jail and released later in the day when he was sober.

Noise Disturbance: A caller reported a man and woman yelling at each other at their residence. Officers responded to the location and contacted the female who stated it was a verbal conflict only and everything was ok.

Information: While walking around at Old Townsite during low tide, an individual came upon some bones and were concerned they may be human bones. Officers responded at the next low tide and found the bones to be too large for human bones and suspect them to have come from a moose.

4-29-18 Valdez Fire Department responded to a fire alarm activation at the Valdez Post Office. After investigation of the area, no fire was found and alarm was reset.
