Register to vote this week if you want to cast ballot in the August Primary

Deadline to be eligible to cast a ballot looms over those not already registered

Anyone hoping to cast a ballot in the August 21 primary elections must be registered to vote by this Sunday according to the Lt. Governor’s office.

Lt. Gov. Byron Mallott’s office issued a press release Monday reminding Alaskans about the looming deadline.

Those already registered to vote in Alaska should also make sure their registration is current.

In Valdez, potential voters can register in person at the DMV, city hall, through mail and online and must be aware that only the online option will allow registration Sunday, though some regional offices outside of Valdez will be open.

“Those planning to mail in their applications must have it postmarked by July 22 and the division must receive it within 5 days after the deadline for your name to appear on the precinct register,” a press release from Mallott’s office said. “Regional offices open on the final weekend include: Region I (Juneau), Region II (Anchorage) (Mat-Su), Region III (Fairbanks), Region IV (Nome), and the Director’s Office (Juneau).”

The Division of Elections in Alaska urges everyone to please not wait until the last days to register.

“DOE encourages Alaska voters to register or update their information ahead of time and not to wait until the last day,” Mallott’s office said.
